Trump Legal Troubles

If you woke up each morning knowing you owed $87k more that day in interest payments it would be a very bad day.  Trump is having many of those bad days.

THE HIGH COST OF CHEAP LIVING:   Fraud is always a cheap way to live until it isn't. (cheat investors, vendors, stockholders, students, bankers etc)

When most New Yorkers wake up, they might splurge by spending a few bucks on coffee and a bagel.

Every morning Donald Trump wakes up, he now owes another $87,500 in interest on the massive legal penalties he received last week.

The pain is set to continue until he pays off the entirety of the nearly half a billion dollars in fines and interest in his Manhattan civil fraud case.

The devastating judgment handed down by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron on Friday against the former president and his longtime Trump Organization executives will increase by 9% annually until resolved.

Trump always bragged that he was the "King of Debt".  Well...now he has a lot more debt to prove it.

So he likes to play with other people's money- let's see how fun it will be for him.

AG James not letting Trump squirm around the judgment by changing his business address.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is asking a judge to block Donald Trump from changing his business address from New York to Florida, arguing that his executives "carry out the business activities" of the Trump Organization at Manhattan's Trump Tower.

In a Thursday letter, James urged Judge Arthur Engoron to "reject Defendants' attempt to change the business address of the six entity Defendants to Florida as the record establishes those entities are located in Trump Tower at 725 5th Avenue in New York, the office building in which the executives who carry out the business activities of those entities work."

"If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets," James told ABC News on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Trump's attorneys had asked Engoron to delay enforcing the multi-million dollar judgment against him for a month, accusing James of an "unseemly rush" by asking the judge to sign off on a proposal judgment just days after the ruling. Trump has 30 days from when a judgment is entered to post bond and appeal.

SCOTUS so high on their own supply as high-minded apolitical neutral arbiters of the law (lol) that they just took up Trump’s ridiculous immunity argument that’s been destroyed at every lower level so they can in effect gift him another delay trying to run out the clock on justice.

SCOTUS is a bad joke. There’s a reason their reputation is in the toilet.

With lots of evidence they themselves are openly corrupt and able to be bought for the highest bidder, it’s no mistake they want to let the slimiest, most corrupt scumbag in our political hellscape slide by on his rather obvious crimes.

But HEY! Look over HERE! It’s Hunter’s schlong!

Roberts's legacy is not going to be a good one. Especially if this goes sideways, which it very well could with the way things have been stacked. We know Alito and Thomas for sure will vote in favor of Trump. Roberts could end up being the swing vote as 2 of the 3 Trump appointees will probably vote in his favor.

Then again Trump's lawyers have a way of f#&%ing everything up...

No big deal. Only the fate of the country's future hangs in the balance.

i don't see the SC ruling until after november.  they will drag it out and then give trump unlimited power is what my guess is.   hope i am wrong and they make a quick decision for the good of the country but am not  very optimistic that they will.

I think I’m with @commando here. I would hope there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell they actually rule in his favor. That would be a catastrophically awful ruling just facilitating our slide into fascism. I don’t trust SCOTUS at all but I don’t even think they’re that stupid. The logical consequences of that ruling would be that Biden could just order a government-sanctioned hit job on Trump (or SCOTUS for that matter) and claim presidential immunity.

If you think that’s insane, that’s literally one of Team Trump’s arguments.

Unfortunately I think they’re just stroking their own sense of self-importance on a ruling they didn’t even really need to make. They were asked to take up the case last fall and they passed, sending it through the typical channels. But now obviously they need to have their say. Coincidentally it aligns perfectly with everyone’s favorite crime lord’s strategy of delaying everything as long as possible so he can’t be held accountable.

And you’ll still get people arguing how he’s just exercising his rights and SCOTUS isn’t just a partisan group of FedSoc lackeys.

It’s really embarrassing how badly one can exploit our justice system if they have unlimited resources from their cronies and moronic following footing their bills.

Or it opens up the door for Biden to play the same game - obstruct the election or don't vacate the WH if Trump wins.  For the good of the country, he could say 'We cannot allow trump to be president again. It will destroy democracy'.  So in in destroying democracy, he will save democracy.    Do I think Biden would do such a thing - absolutely not.  But the SC has opened the door to the possibility of a tyrant taking over if they rule in favor of Trump.  And slow walking the decision until after the election would show (1) Cowardness on their part & (2) Give 'aid and comfort' to an enemy of the state - Trump the would be dictator.    Now that the SC wants to weigh in on this, to elevate their status no doubt, they need to make it an emergency ruling.   A judge in Illinois has ruled against Trump being on the ballot - so there are now several states who have ballot issues on hold pending the SC decisions.  This is far worse that GWB vs Gore and the 2000 election stalemate.

Honestly this is pretty hilarious. You have to admit, Republicans going from "Lock her up!" to "it's absolutely essential that the President be allowed to commit crimes" is quite amazing. Of course, Republican voters are immune from irony so this - like many things - is lost on them.

Regarding SCOTUS, it's unfortunate that two of their members are openly compromised and obviously corrupt. Without a miracle, the court will be a Heritage Foundation/Federalist Society outpost for a generation. I'm not sure if or when liberal Justices will control the court again, but it's likely going to be decades.
