beorach
The only sports psychology story I've heard about NU is that the kids had to watch some blooper real of theirs (from one or more games against Texas) ahead of playing the Longhorns. I guess it was supposed to show how they just needed to clean up their act to win? It didn't work, of course. Quote Link to comment

Someone earlier mentioned that they felt like the coaches talked him up too much to pull him. I think it's important to remember, it wasn't just the coaches. The media also had nothing but good things to say. It also wasn't just the local media. This suggest to me, that Lee is killing it in practice, he also looked good in the Spring game. Not amazing, but certainly better than this. So now he's in pressure situations and it just keeps going poorly. He's making bad reads, forcing things that he shouldn't etc. I've got to think there's something about game situations that rattles the kid. He clearly throws a good ball that seems to be a consensus. It doesn't matter how tight your spiral is though when you're making bad reads and forgetting to go through the steps. I think it's just going to keep compounding too. IMPO, I'd be having him spend time with a sports psychologist on the sideline. I thought it was ridiculous to discuss whether or not Lee would sty for his senior season or opt to be a high first round pick. I don't see Lee playing next year at Nebraska, but I guarantee it won't be because he is in the NFL. 1 Quote Link to comment
ColoradoHusk
Honestly, I don't think Riley doesn't get involved in who starts and who gets how many snaps. I think he leaves everything up to his position coaches to make those decisions. Sometimes, I think he's listening to his favorite jazz album on his headset, rather than communicating with the coaches. Quote Link to comment

Easier said than done but it's clear his decision making isn't there and he's especially struggling with man under coverage. For example, limit Lee's options.... One problem with this, though, is that Lee seems to think players with opposing jerseys are viable options. We need to find a way to get the opposing Defense to have less guys on the field Quote Link to comment

I fail to see the logic in this when the coaches know they're coaching for their jobs. If they don't win, their gone. So....if they are scared that POB is going to be too good........that makes no sense. Quote Link to comment

alwayshusking
Read on another board that POB was warming up and had his helmet on, possibly ready to go in, but then we got the ball on our own 3 yard line. Might not have wanted to give him his first snap backed up like that. Then they went on a 97 yard TD drive so you wouldn't pull Lee after that. Not sure if true, I wasn't at the game. I was listening to the game on the radio at this point, and they never mentioned that POB was warming up, so I take that post on the other board as fake news. Of course, I could be wrong. Rutgers only had the ball for 3 plays before punting, so maybe POB didn't have enough time to get fully warmed up. Quote Link to comment

I recall hearing them saying that no one was warming up on the sidelines after the pick 6. 2 Quote Link to comment

May have been nothing, I mean he is the backup and should be ready to go in the game at any time bc of injury or equipment malfunction anyway. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I thought the radio guys mentioned that POB was briefly on the bike warming up, but if it was just before the punt was downed at our 3, it makes sense for the coaches not to put him in under those circumstances. And if that's the case, and Lee leads them on a 17-play, 8:10, 97-yard TD scoring drive, it's kinda hard to pull him at that point. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Just another anecdotal story. I was at the Arky St game and was specifically watching the QBs warm up. They were throwing little "nothing" passes - half speed, no defense, couple drop steps, receivers run a half-speed slant or something simple, ball was in the air less than 15 yards. After all the off-season hype, I was expecting to see Lee put almost every ball right on the money. Instead they were relatively all over the place. They were completed passes but instead of being between the numbers they were on the back shoulder, at the hip, etc. Nothing terrible but nowhere near as accurate as I was expecting for such a simple pass. POB was much more on target with his passes (alternating reps). Quote Link to comment
