Hooked on Huskers
Taken off life support. Aside from musician, Petty appeared in the late 90's movie, The Postman, as the Bridge City Mayor. 1 Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
Wow....it seems like there have been a lot of famous people die recently. Quote Link to comment
CheeseHusker
My parents saw him at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln before he got famous. I always envied them for that... it must be cool to see somebody in an intimate place before they break. He's been a relevant artist pretty much my whole life.... one of those guys who feels like he's always been around and will always be around. The bizarre thing is just this morning in the wake of the shooting, I thought a lot about mortality.... my own, my family, and then famous people. And I think at one point I even thought about celebrities dying unexpectedly. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
@CheeseHusker what year would have that been? I guess I started hanging at the Zoo after he was famous. Never knew he played there. Quote Link to comment

Two things... 1)There seem to be more "famous" people nowadays 2)With all the social media and news outlets currently, famous deaths are more "celebrated" Quote Link to comment

But, social media and "famous people" didn't just all of a sudden explode in the last few weeks. It's just a coincidence that a number of them have died recently. It happens that way sometimes. I remember the common thread last year is that "2016 sucks" with all the celebrity deaths, but we are seeing a similar amount of deaths this year. But, yes, they do seem to come in waves. BigRedBuster
Back on topic. Listening to his music in my office today. Man, he was such a great artist. His music was such a clean, simple type of rock that wasn't overly commercialized. 2 Quote Link to comment

krc1995
Sign that I'm getting old. It seems I'm losing my icons way too frequently. Quote Link to comment
Cdog923
Last word was that the original TMZ/CBS reports were inaccurate: he was still on life support, but being given Last Rites very soon. If no one else minds, I'd like to turn this into a video thread: post your favorite Petty songs. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
Ahhh...the era of great music videos. I had forgotten how creepy the Last Dance With Mary Jane video was. Quote Link to comment
