We spend more than the next 10 countries. Unacceptable. If we would cut that in half, we would still be spending twice as much as China...the next leading country. And, think about what we could do with that money. Link to comment

I don't think the government should be run like a business outside of the military and infrastructure. We get absolutely ripped off in those areas and need some hardcore evaluation. 1 Link to comment

Well...imagine if we cut the budget in half AND did all that. But....that's not the "conservative" thing to do. Link to comment

Imagine if that $ amount were near zero or even half and the country was still just as safe. Think of what that those hundreds of billions could fund domestically!! Military expenditures are bloated. Now imagine what an even bigger $ number could fund domestically if our politicians (both sides) weren’t such asswipes and we weren’t paying more in debt service annually than what we pay in DOD expenditures. Kinda makes the “well all this debt is ok” argument sound pretty silly. 1 Link to comment

So, cutting 400 billion from defense would immediately cut that by almost 1/3. There are other areas that could be cut also (not eliminated) by doing what @ZRod suggests and just be smarter with what we spend. Then, you put on top of that making sure everyone is paying the taxes they are supposed to be paying (funding the IRS the way they need to be) and...ding ding ding....we start getting to where we need to be. Cut military spending to a sustainable level. Close tax loopholes full audit of CMS (so much fraud and waste there) Stop the “emergency spending bills or the country will not recover” nonsense. Audit government headcount (bloat that isn’t needed) Update the software system for IRS Quit monetarily propping up “too big to fail companies” with government money. Government revenues at current levels ( or previous years revenues quite frankly) are plenty to not have the yearly deficits Congress gives us. 1 Link to comment

We will still have quite a bit of immigration, which we need. But, it would cut it down. 1 1 Link to comment

Archy1221
Well this story is turning out to be quite disingenuous in its framing. John Cooper doing John Cooper things. 1 Link to comment

Weird how most every American can agree on these common sense things but partisan politics prevents anything approaching common sense. Reign in DoD spending and the deficit would fix itself. Yet one party insists on ridiculous levels of defense funding while simultaneously bemoaning and blaming the deficit. While the other side pretends the deficit isn’t a problem out of necessity to fund things that are impossible to fund with defense expenditures where they are. In my mind I’m hearing Yakov Smirnov saying “what a country”. 1 Link to comment
