Most Overrated Coaching Jobs

I may be a little biased here, but I think Nebraska would be a great job to have if you were a football coach. You might have to work a little harder to recruit, but you have top notch facilities, the backing of the whole state of Nebraska, and many more advantages in my mind. I'm not a big fan of Notre Dame, Penn State or Miami, but I agree that it was crazy to have them on the list as well. Terrible article in my honest opinion.

Now this is some bullsh#t. Not only did USA Today come out bashing Trump today, they also published this garbage.

Did he just call 4 of the most historic college football programs (Nebraska, Notre Dame, Miami, and Penn State) overrated gigs?

I guess it depends on how high you are rating the coaching position at these schools to begin with.

Honestly I don't have a problem calling Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State and Miami overrated as far as coaching jobs go.

The problem with this article is -- everything else. Poorly written. Only a couple of sentences for each school. Inconsistency in criteria of selecting schools.

When has anyone EVER called Vanderbilt a top coaching position? Hard to be overrated when you are never rated. Same with West Virginia.

If you pick UCLA because of its proximity to USC, why the hell wouldn't you pick Michigan State, Auburn, GA Tech, Oklahoma State, etc.

Crap article. Not really an article, anyway.

I agree with the article that Notre Dame is an overrated job. I wasn't sure until I read the article about Penn State, but the article does have a valid point on them. However, I don't agree about Miami or Nebraska. Miami is still in a recruiting hotbed regardless if they are smaller than a couple other Florida schools. The Miami job would be a very good job. I'm not sure how one could put Nebraska on the list. First of all, is it really even a highly desirable job? Past coaching searches would argue that it's not even that highly of a desirable job. Considering the hack job Pud did as AD when he fired Solich and hired his what fifth choice there wasn't a lot of interest in us then. I really don't know how everything went down when TO was in charge of the coaching search, but there really weren't any big names floated around then either. With the last coaching search, most people were left scratching their head after Riley was announced as the new coach. I'm not sure how we can be deemed overrated when I'm not sure a lot of college football rates us that high of a job to begin with.

Overrated is not how I would describe the Nebraska job. I would describe it as a harder job. It has all the trappings of all the traditional blue blood programs great facilites, great fan base and great history and tradition. But it doesn't have a firtile recruiting base. That's what makes it hard in today's world.

I think that might be the first and last article I read from USA Today. I just go to their site for spreads. The guy didn't even mention academic standards at Notre Dame while not fleshing out his argument. The coaching job is overrated because it's hard to add to an exceptional legacy? Why did it take so many sentences to express one thought?

It's the same for NU. The job's overrated because of the size of the local population?

It's hard to win anywhere. Apathy can be a hindrance just as fanaticism can. I suppose we should be happy the guy thinks these programs have jobs that are arguably desirable. He rattles off more pros than cons for good old Nebraska U anyway.

The only real "recruiting hotbeds" in the country are Texas and California. The rest of the country will need to look outside of their area for recruits.

and Louisiana, Florida, Ohio, and Georgia. It is not just leaving your state to get recruits it is how far you have to leave your state. There are more 4 and 5 star recruits in the State of Ohio most years than within the 500 mile radius around Lincoln. It is a 192 miles from Ann Arbor MI to Columbus Ohio it is less to Cleveland. That is why Michican gets so many recruits from Ohio. It is 202 miles from Atlanta Georgia a recruiting hotbed to Tuscaloosa Alabama. Get the picture, that doesn't even include all the 4 and 5 star guys in the state of Alabama.

I thought the same thing about ND. He missed the most important issue. Dumb.

A lot of other in-state schools are getting better making it a little tougher than it was years ago to recruit. Especially in Texas - a little more now in Cal and Florida. Nebraska doesn't have good in-state talent, but at least we don't share it with anyone. Even Iowa gets a few stolen from ISU. Besides flying around more to recruits Nebraska has EVERYTHING you need to succeed. Money, tradition, facilities, and a great fan base.

Just my two cents I think Ohio State is the best job based on that criteria. Ohio pumps out a lot of great players and they aren't going to lose them to an in-state MAC school.
