2017 Friday Night Lights

Just want to chime in here.

I have NEVER, in y 35+ years of following Nebraska football religiously, seen a night like this one. The amount of talent assembled on their own dime speaks VOLUMES for how this staff is approaching recruiting. I'm in awe of it...because I didn't think it could be done in the way they are doing it.

Hands down am very impressed with the job the staff is doing. Hoping that it translates to the field in these next 2 seasons...I know Bookie and Gebbia are thinking the same thing. Here's to an upward trajectory on recruiting and a positive outlook on what could be.\!

Kinda digging Moses Bryant & Justin Holme --- nice hands and size on that kid.

Looks like Moses has been working on his ball skills at WR. If we could get him on campus in a preferred walk on spot that would be a nice addition for this class.

Loved it. I have a to be freshman and sophomore. We hit Tx State o-line D-line camp, Rices Bright lights camp and finished with Nebraskas FNL. Tx State was nice as they took them through the locker room and got to take pictures in a jersey. They had a great atomosphere but only about 100 kids or so. Rice Bright lights had about 75-100 kids and was pretty laid back. FNL was a lot more kids and way more high profile kids obviously. It was a great experience and even though it was a 12 hour drive we will be back next year for both my boys to compete. Only the sophomore did FNL this year. Freshman did the Skills camp that morning.

I was kind of thinking this too.

Nebraska needs to move FNL Camp to the Friday night before Fan Day. Which then sets them up to see first few days of fall camp.

Look at how many commits Michigan, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M are getting. Helps them lock up commits before high school season.

June does provide a good halfway point between Spring Game and first game though. Maybe host a BBQ in June and FNL in July?

Are they allowed to have a "camp" in July? I thought those were limited by NCAA to a certain time period. Aren't the other schools just hosting a "BBQ" now?

Does Nebraska really want to compete against schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson...etc. by moving their FNL to July?

Ok but chances are you won't get guys like Parsons to come to your FNL event.

This is a terrible opinion. Should they just lay down instead while everyone else is enjoying success? Even if they only got 1 or 2 guys from bigger schools it puts them in a better standing.

I'm not sure that it is a terrible opinion - The whole goal is to get guys on campus. We seem to swing some guys that aren't that interested once they get here (lamar Jackson). The point being made is if we are competing with the top 5 teams in the country for the same weekend then we will not get those guys on campus. If we do it a weekend that is not as crowded then we will get our fair share of guys on campus. Now the downside is that we are going after a weekend that isn't as ideal - until we start beating those teams on the field we may need to try to slide around them when it comes to picking dates.....its a numbers game and right now this is our best chance.

Getting 2018, 2019, and 2020 kids on your campus for FNL was a bigger deal than getting someone to verbal at the camp. The goal is to get them to sign (not just verbal) and getting them to campus is the first step in doing that.

Looking at a very small set of data (last year), we didn't get a bunch of verbals right after, so maybe timing of FNL doesn't matter as much? Here's our June-Christmas commitments from last year:

Deiontae Watts DT Plano, TX 6'3" 290 5.6 9/18/16

Guy Thomas DE Miami, FL 6'3" 205 5.8 8/8/16

Ben Miles RB Baton Rouge, LA 6'1" 215 5.5 7/31/16

Broc Bando OL Bradenton, FL 6'4" 279 5.5 6/17/16

Since June this year, we got Joshua Moore on 6/18.

Not sure if a move back to July would be beneficial or not. Just thought it was interesting how many of our commitments came in from June-Dec. Hopefully more this year with the early signing date.
