What did we learn?....Northwestern

Recommended Posts

Even if we hire a new coach next season, we are at least 2 if not 3 years away from competing with Wisky or Iowa yet.  I think we have some real good pieces, and also think we have some real cancers in our locker room.  I think we will need at least a season just to weed out the ones who just don't belong here.  Another season then to just get things rolling in the right direction.  All of which I am on board with no matter who the next man standing is.  This team has no emotion and absolutely limited N pride.  Alot of it is Coaching Staff, but I won't also put some on our players as well.  Blcoking is effort, tackling is effort, running down field is pride and effort.

I think at this point your looking at rebuilding quickly thru the JUCO process for a couple of years, while recruiting some of the best athletes as freshmen.  Buildling a program again.  Building it with athletes, not just stars on a recruiiting list.  If it is Frost, all the more better.  I think he can recruit some of that Florida talent up here, but knowing he will have to hit Texas hard once again.  Maybe Ohio and Pennsylvania a little bit as well.

No it isn't. Not for the Huskers. You are fighting with Northwestern for the third best team in a "weak" division. Give PJ Fleck two years and you'll be fighting for 4th.

Reading comprehension is hard right?

These Huskers were fighting for and winning the division before Riley got here. WITH THE RIGHT COACH we will be fine.

Yes it is.  He said with the right coaching it can be easily won, and he's absoutely correct.  The west is one of the weakest divisions in the country.

After the debacle against Ohio State, I cancelled my sports television package.  I figured I would listen to the games on the internet or radio.  Last week I listened to the Purdue game via Huskers.com.  This week, I didn't even bother listening at all.  I am done with Nebraska football this year.  I have no ill will towards Riley personally, but this team is a dumpster fire for all the reasons cited above.  I am beginning to think Mike Riley should be fired tonight or tomorrow.  I seriously do not think we can wait until the end of the season.  Nebraska is just plain awful in every aspect.

I haven't attended a home game since he was hired. I refuse to support this crap. Won't be attending until this is rectified.

I learned that there is fight in some members of this team. Unfortunately the coaches do not put the players in the best position to win.

Honestly I was not mad about the loss because I know Riley is gone now.

I also learned that I am sure glad Eichorst was fired before this sex assault that occurred at his house. Boy would that have been embarrassing for the university.

I already knew this, but Riley finds ways to lose games that should be winnable. Northwestern was gift-wrapping this game to NU in that 3rd quarter and then NU hit a couple big plays to get to the 25 yard line in the 4th quarter. 3 runs into the LOS and a FG by Brown puts NU up by 10. That would have pretty much put the game away. Even after the INT, the defense can’t make a stop, allowing NW to tie the game. Then Nebraska went on the slowest 5 minutes drive of all time. I understand not wanting to leave time for NW to drive down the field for the win, but why is Riley killing time and being conservative before NU is in scoring position. He basically played for OT. Then allowing the 2nd down screen call was the nail in the coffin. NU hasn’t run a good screen in 2 3/4 years, but that’s going to be the go-to call in OT. Riley is a loser. His teams find ways to lose, rather than win. He needs to go.

Dilly Dilly!

Wow, didn't think we could see coaching at the level in a Power 5 game ever.  Neither coach called a good game, one just didn't call as bad of a game to win it.  Really, wasn't to impressed with either teams play calling or play.  This game was more winnable than any game we have had all season.

All in all, this game is just another one in the line 19-18 record now here.  37 games of this kind of crap.  I am guessing this modest .500 will be on display at the end of this season when he finishes 20-20 on his career here.  What a legacy.  What a program.

You are of course assuming we are going to win a game in November, right!? I would say Mike Riley’s wins are over. He finishes his stellar career 19-21. It is only fitting that a 0.500 coach comes to Nebraska and finishes below 0.500. Eichorst, where ever you are you incompetent sad excuse of an AD...you should be escorted to the gates of hell...Dilly Dilly...

I learned that Jack Stoll made the first touchdown of his Husker career tonight!

I learned what a tough player Chris Weber is (He's going to make an excellent doctor!)

I learned that Ozigbo is one of the gutsiest players on our team.  Love that kid!

I learned that J.D. Spielman just doesn't quit.  I'm looking forward to seeing how Scott develops him next year!
