  1. Boosters are not happy, that much I know for sure. I actually wouldn't be surprised by the 18 months thing. Heard from someone this week that knows some fairly important people at the university, the plan is to bring in a new Chancellor, with item number 1 on the agenda being firing S.E. and hiring a new coach FWIW.
  2. I wonder how the players feel about everything that's going on. They obviously have to be frustrated as well. I wonder if they are more in the boat of retaining Riley, or just hitting the reset button? That's what it ultimately comes down to, not what we as the fans want.

We also knew what the players sentiments were towards Pelini. We do not know that with Riley, which is part of what poses the question.

I wonder about that as well. Transitions are always difficult for people, some more than others. And transitions where there is a lot of negativity swirling around (right or wrong) tend more difficult.

  3. Connor Cook will be B1G Offensive Player of the week next week and Shilique Calhoun will probably be defensive Player of the week
  4. It's a hoax on a fake nbc site, unfortunately. Ah dangit, that crossed my mind but saw it was NBC so figured it was actually legit.

  6. I'm just waiting for Fyfe to start Saturday, light it up, and the drama surrounding the football team will get even worse, with people calling for him to be the starter. That's just how things tend to go with NU football anymore.

  8. I'd much rather have 22 players playing every weekend with the heart of Gangwish. The mythical powers of Gangwish are strong!!! At least he gives a sh#t
  9. I kept waiting for Rick to hack it off right there after they kept showing it and him with the machete. With Herschel didn't they have to cut his leg off almost immediately? Seems like Rick waited too long if there's zombie blood in there. On another note, I think Glenn is still alive. There is no way Rick Grimes turns into a walker via papercut. I think it's 50/50 at this point. Hope he is. Haha my thoughts as well. But, If he's not gonna become a walker and not going to have to chop it off, then what's the point of making a big deal about it being cut? Was it just to make another question about whether a character is going to be okay or not?

  12. I kind of wonder if this is the largest reason for not running Tommy as much as everyone would like. We're worried enough about the season already. If Tommy goes down for the season, we are officially screwed. This is one of the biggest reasons, if not the biggest reason we have not seen more designed QB runs. The staff has VERY LITTLE faith in any of the backup QBs.
  13. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record but, the 6 personal fouls and 6 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (I believe) goes right to my accusation that it's a cultural issue. Those are penalties that don't have to happen. They are players having a certain mind set that causes them to act out in a way that gets those fouls. They do that instead of paying attention to the details of playing an error free game. 9 False starts. The offense is not paying attention to detail. There is something in the mind set that (as a group) they are not paying attention to this detail like they should be. Those two issues right there account for 225 yards of penalties or 37.5 yards per game. Taking out the "Misc" penalties, the offense is accounting for 66% of the penalties. I would guess that on average, an offense usually accounts for more penalties on a team. There are simply more rules against them such as false start, 5 men in back field...etc. It would be interesting to know how that is usually for a top program. Maybe they're so focused on the other details and nuances of the new offense that they're making these mistakes
  14. If we get another illegal formation or 5-men in the backfield penalty this year, I might have to gouge my eyes out
  15. I'm not sure Riley is going to take us anywhere but I do think we he needs at least 2 seasons to try and fix this. But for funsies, if he were to get fired, has anyone mentioned David Cutcliffe as a possibility? I know he hasn't really won anything of substance but he seems to pretty consistently do more with less.

Leroy did this last year. No difference besides a QB on a better team so it's more of a big deal.

  16. I think the game plan was solid as the deep ball was there multiple times, Tommy just couldn't make the throws on most of them for whatever reason and a couple times the receivers just dropped it. I can think of at least two play's that should've resulted in td's from the deep ball but we f'ed it up. I get that, but for what ever reason, it wasn't working. Overthrows, drops, the weather, bad day, it wasn't working. You can't keep starting a drive second and 10. You have to cut your loses and move on to something else. You can't just after a loss keep saying the long ball was there all day. Which is what DL said, well guess what Danny, the game plan always doesn't work. It may have been but after you miss it 5x you may want to back off of it. I agree that we should have tried something else, run more, shorter passes, something. However, DL and MR were trying to exploit the defenses weakness and doing a pretty decent job of it play calling wise (at least part of the time), we just couldn't execute (I know, I know, I had to say it). It's kind of a catch 22 though, especially with our team, since I don't really feel like we have any real "strengths" on offense right now, at what point do you stop trying to play to the defenses weakness and instead play to your "strengths"? I haven't gone back and watched nor did I notice during the game but on some of those deep plays that should've been scores, would we even have been able to do anything different successfully, like run the ball, based on the way the defense was positioned (was the box stacked, etc.)?

Agreed nuance, for the team and recruits. Yea, maybe we can sneak him into Maurice's jersey?

  19. Well, in my opinion, this assumes that we have all the information available to us and know each individual factor that led up to Mike Riley's decision. The truth is, as much as we all think we know Alex Lewis, none of the fans know him like the players and coaches do. We also don't know what the relationship is like in the locker room or in tandem with the coaches. We just don't know. Am I a little shocked nothing happened to Lewis? Yes. But, I'm also just as shocked at some of the opinions and bold criticisms I'm reading from some of the posters here. Some of the things people are saying about Lewis and the decision seem a little brash, unless there's some other information we have outside of the two things he's said in the last few weeks. I agree it's not befitting of a captain and I also am surprised nothing happened to him, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend I know all the facts surrounding him and the team and what led up to his conversation with Riley. Honestly I don't see the relevance of needing to know him like the other players and coaches do. I know what he said/did, twice, and I'm pretty sure I know the full context of it (unless something wasn't reported, which I don't think is the case). My opinion is that I don't want someone like that representing the university and the state, especially when he is supposed to be a "leader" of the team. Maybe he is getting all the punishment he needs behind closed doors and if so, great. But I would feel better personally knowing that this sort of attitude and these sort of actions have a zero tolerance policy. We need to eliminate that sort of "left over" toxicity from the team before I feel we can really start moving forward and growing as a team. We all talk about how the team is "mentally weak" at times, you don't think this sort of attitude has something to do with that? The "F it" approach, if you will.
  20. My biggest issue with this whole thing is what if this runs deeper than just Alex Lewis. Seems like there's a fair probability he's not the only player on the team with this mentality. Now I hope he is but I'm not sure that's the case. You smoke a little weed, you get suspended. You act like a complete jackass and do so representing the state and university, not once but twice and have no consequences. Not what I would call setting a good precedent for future punishments. Plus, what kind of message does that send to the rest of the team - especially those (if there are more), that have this same mentality?

  22. Your assessment of the candidates are fairly close to mine. I'm more willing to give Fiorina more of a chance. You say she ran HP into the ground but at the same time, there was a huge tech bubble that occurred that had something to do with that. Anyway, I'm willing to give her a chance. I like Carson and he obviously is someone who is extremely impressive. I'm just not at the point that I'm wiling to say he is "my guy" yet.....well, I'm not willing to say that about anyone. There is one thing that absolutely makes me happy in all of this. The three leaders in the Republican party have never held public office before. That tells me the people want change and Republicans are at least willing to look outside of Washington for that change. Regarding Fiorina, I would direct you to this article and would be curious to see if your opinion changes: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/09/carly-fiorina-ceo-jeffrey-sonnenfeld-2016-213163 I do have concern regarding how religious Carson is. I have no problem with someone being religious but if your beliefs get in the way of the constitution and the law, well that's not gonna fly. Interesting article. I will take it as one person's opinion and think about it. Obviously the guy does not like anything about how she ran the company and he might have some good points. Oh yea definitely just one person's opinion and obviously with some bias. IMO though, things like her forcing HP to buy her a Gulfstream Jet (a $36 million jet), the brilliant decision to buy that awesome company, Compaq, HP's current stock price and the layoffs, to name a few, are more than enough for me to rule her out.
