Met the officiating crew...

So Saturday, my wife, son and father all watched the game at Ameristar Sports Bar. And of course...it didn't go well. That night we stayed in the casino hotel...and after a little nap, went out to the car to get our bags. I get in the elevator to go back up to our room and 3 gentlemen step into the elevator with me.

They are all carrying bags embroidered with "Big XII Conference".

I ask..."So what do you guys do for the conference?" Knowing full and well what the answer was. They kind of look at each other, and one says. "You don't want to know."

I took off my Nebraska hat and put it behind my back and say jokingly..."OK...NOW what do you do for the conference?"

They all kind of chuckle and the gentleman says "8 turnovers son...it didn't matter what we did on the field."

We talked for a few minutes, obviously they don't want to 'talk shop' at this point...and after being a part of that. But I asked, "Have you ever seen anything like that before?" And he shook his head and said, "Honestly, I have never been a part of something like that in my career.".

Thats all i could say too. That was a friggin anamoly, it was bizarre. I havent checked, but 8 turnovers has to be some sort of record whether it be NCAA or atleast a conference record for TO's, I know it has to be a team record. I can safely say, i will never see a team on any level of competition have a -8 TO margin in a game the rest of my life. Its just a shame that it happened to us.

I haven't seen others comment on this, but I thought these refs had a pretty good game. The reviews almost always confirmed the original call (or at least close enough to accept it).

There are always some to quibble, but from my seat on the couch with the benefit of replay, slo-mo, and HD, I'd give a good grade to the refs in this one.

Now if they'd given us some ridiculously bad calls that overturned all of the turnovers, then I'd say they might have changed the outcome. <_<

Good story, cmb.

As far as the turnovers go, the records book are online, there is no reason to guess. I downloaded the pdfs. We've had 8 turnovers twice before, Colorado 1967 and ISU 1972.

We were +8 twice, KSU 1949, A&M 2003. We were -7 vs Missouri 1968. so Saturday set a new record with -8. We fumbled 10 times vs KSU in 1999 but only lost 3, and lost 6 fumbles a few times, most recently ISU 1976.

The NCAA records are 10 fumbles lost, and 13 turnovers total. I don't see a +- record listed. One team actually had 11 turnovers and won.

I don't know how many of these guys were in poor weather conditions. Part of the strangeness is losing the ball so many times in decent weather.

Iowa State FORCED the majority of those turnovers and Nebraska flat out LOST to Iowa State at home.

Pathetic.

Just like Mizzou dropped one at home to the team that dropped one against Iowa State at home.

Pathetic. ;)

Yes, Missouri is pathetic this year.

Is it upsetting that your team lost at home to the team that lost at home to Iowa State?...you may want to find the nearest cliff or nearest tall building... <_<
