Nebraska hasn't beaten a team inside the top 20 since...

I would like to say that this make us due for a big win, but at this point we're overdue. Personally I think we match up well defensive with their offense in a way they haven't seen yet. I've said it before and gotten burned, but this time I really feel like tomorrow is the day we end that dry spell.

I hope that we beat Okie State but its hard to believe that after what we witnessed last Saturday against Texas.

I know we play better on the road but Okie State has a lot of weapons on offense. Will our secondary be ready for the test? Our offense NEEDS to bounce back from the Texas loss and get points on the board fast becaust Okie State can score. From reading this weeks newspaper articles it sounds like the players are still thinking about the Texas loss and one reason why I think we'll lose to Okie State.

I'll root for the Huskers, of course, but I'll believe it when I see it. Way too many stupid losses where we just drop the ball (pun not intended) when we should be winning.

I hate to be a downer, but I've been down this "we're going to win FOR SURE" path way too many times.

Should be "we're good enough to win FOR SURE" b/c that's a fact vs any team we face. And I'm almost tempted to say "we should win FOR SURE."

I'm not sure after watching Oregon last night that we are good enough to win this game. Perhaps it was their best performance ever, but I was impressed. Even against a poor D at KSU, we never looked anything like that well oiled machine. It seemed like they were totally in sync and had been performing at a high level for years while we look like a team of newcomers after three weeks of spring practice. There was simply no comparison. If the oakie lite d is slow we might beat them if we don't become a turnover machine, but well likely have to score 30 or more, a tall order.

a well oiled machine against UCLA...

Okie Lite is no Oregon by any means. Yes we are gonna have to score 30 to win, but OSU has terrible D. I think almost as bad as KStates.

Don’t we already have a thread on this? LINK

In the other thread I said this streak is arbitrary BS. Since when do we talk about the Top 19 in college football? Everyone in the civilized world talks about the Top 20, don’t they? Besides even if we beat #16 Okie Lite this Saturday, then some dick will ask when our streak of not beating a Top 15 team will end.

So civilized people only deal in multiples of five?
Well. Yes. When is the last time you saw an AP Top 19 poll on espn?

Regardless of how you chop it up, Nebraska has been abysmal against highly ranked opponents in the last decade. Whether you wanna say they're 2-22 against top 20 opponents (beat Michigan and OU) or 0-22 against top 19 opponents or 0-18 against top 15 opponents... it's all very very bad.

FWIW, Okie St. is #14 in the BCS, which most media sources consider to be the official college football rankings from this point on. So we end the uncivilized and civilized streaks with a win today. chuckleshuffle We will still have a 13-game losing streak against the top 10, although that's not nearly as disturbing (damn Callahan should've beaten Auburn though :madash ).

Yeah, I agree that NU has been abysmal against top teams for the past decade. But nearly every top program has suffered through these same sort of streaks. Alabama, USC, LSU, Texas, tOSU——they all had down periods where they couldn’t beat anyone. Michigan and Notre Dame are going through theirs right now. NU is just now emerging from such a dark period. We heard about the Top-20 streak for a couple of years. Then we beat the #20 team, OU. Now it’s the Top-19 steak. If we beat Okie Lite today it’ll be the Top-14 streak. We’ll prolly keep seeing jackass sportswriters touting these arbitrary “streaks” until we finally beat the #1 team. But I guess they have to have *something* to fill those column inches.

It makes no difference who the sports writer, or his agenda. The only team in this category is Duke. Think about that. That is not storied football lore my friend.

I mentioned next year in the big ten in another thread. We face two this year and maybe 3 if we win out. Next year we will most likely have 2 in our first two conference games. Time to shake this monkey TODAY!!!!

To what do you attribute this dubious streak? Motivation? Luck? Chance?

There is no way in hell we're SO BAD that we should be losing all of these games. This is similar to Osborne's 0-7 streak in bowl games in the late 80s/early 90s.

Maybe we are just cursed.. It's really frustrating when you choke in big games and lose to a team that a bottom feeder can keep up with.

Actually there was never a top 20 streak spoken of because we beat #20 Michigan in 2005. I still think it's amazing because all those teams you listed never went 2-22 or 0-22 or whatever against good teams. They may have done it for 4 or 5 years, but not a decade. I'll gladly be proven wrong but I really doubt any traditional powerhouse was ever so consistently bad against top teams for so long.

Until Today! Streak broken. Now lets get 2 in a row.
