SnowBigRed
What is Iowa fan's obsession with the Cornhuskers? I got an email from a friend of mine that is an Iowa fan (nice guy, light razzing only from him) that linked me to one of their boards. On the front page of the board, 7 out of the 20 topics directly related to NU in some way, shape or form. I didn't read into any of them, but I'm sure there were more topics that eventually got to be a Husker bashfest. This board has 0 (now 1) topics regarding Iowa on the front page, and there is a hell of a lot more topics than 20 on the front page. We haven't played them in a decade, not many common opponents, no real connection other than the border to the east of here. The football teams have literally no historical connection to speak of. So what exactly is Iowa's problem with this state and the football team? I had no ill-will towards the state of Iowa or the university before NU moved to the Big 10, but this is a little ridiculous. I just need someone else to verify my thoughts on this. Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt316
Iowa fans have been obsessed and envious with Nebraska for as long as I can remember and that was when we weren't in same conference and rarely played. It's only going to get worse. Hawkeye fans are going to make Missouri fans of late seem tame. Quote Link to comment
NUance
Why the obsession? Because they can see it coming, and they know what's going to happen. Kinda like this guy could see Crouch coming. But couldn't do anything about it. It'll be the same result--team-wise--when we play Iowa. Quote Link to comment
Haspula
Iowa isn't relevant in football Quote Link to comment

I do know they've had some good defenses and awesome defensive lines over the past couple of years. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
Thing is, that obsession seems to go both ways with a few Husker fans. We've just joined a conference that already has three of the top seven all-time winningest football teams, yet I see five times more threads about Iowa than about Ohio State, Michigan and/or Penn State combined. There's a small section of Husker fans, notably those who live either in Iowa itself or along the Nebraska/Iowa border, for whom hating on Iowa is an obsession. For the most part, those of us who live outside those areas don't care. All this focus on Iowa is mind-boggling, especially when we're in a division with Michigan. And yet nobody wants to talk about Michigan. Quote Link to comment
okaive
Obsessed is a good tv show. Quote Link to comment
tschu
Because Iowa is right next to Nebraska and has a huge inferiority complex. They see what our program has done and are doing all they can to brainwash themselves into thinking that their recent success somehow makes their program equal to or better than Nebraska. Its basically the same thing we saw with Missouri, except amplified due to us newly joining their conference. Quote Link to comment
wildman
I'm wondering if part of the hatred is coming from when Nebraska and Iowa were in the same conference. I can't remember what it was called but it did split apart. Part of it become the Missouri Valley Conference and The other became what was knows as the Big 4 i believe that grew to Big 6 then Big 8. I know that was a long time ago but hatred could be passed down through the generations much like Ohio and Michigan which I believe started with the battle over Toledo as both states wanted to claim that area. get huskin!
I think Iowa fans see this as good opportunity. I don't blame them. I gotta tell you, I think they are going to THRASH us this first year. AND no matter what happens, it will be a hard fought game to the end. Because of this, I think it will be as good of a rivalry as CU or OU has been in the past. I love my huskers, I'll root for 'em until my heart goes, but Iowa is better than alot of us are giving them credit for. You watch, they will have a dominant defense and an average but adequate offense. I know my grammer / sentence structure in this post is 'lacking' but I've got to pee and can't... 2 Quote Link to comment

I think you should get to the bathroom - it's starting to impact your thinking...you're spewing out crazy talk. This the same Iowa that lost to both Northwestern & the dominant Minnesota last year? 2-3 on the road in 2010, and they're coming to Lincoln? Quote Link to comment
