B.B. Hemingway
The SEC has decided not to extend an invitation to aTm to enter the SEC conference. They are now at the mercy of Texas and the Shorthorn Network. Quote Link to comment
corncraze
Their delaying it. Still could happen. They need to wait for Tex A&M to go through Tex Legislature and also the SEC is also trying to avoid lawsuits. Tex A&M needs to look they they are courting the SEC, not the other way around. COLLEGE STATION – Bernie Machen, Florida president and chair of the Southeastern Conference presidents and chancellors, issued this statement Sunday: “The SEC Presidents and Chancellors met today and reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment. We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league. We discussed criteria and process associated with expansion. No action was taken with respect to any institution including Texas A&M.” My understanding is this is simply part of the (convoluted) legal process of A&M bolting the Big 12 for the SEC – that it must be documented that A&M courted the SEC, not vice versa, to avoid potential lawsuits. The A&M regents are still expected to hold a teleconference on Monday to discuss “conference alignment.” http://blog.mysanantonio.com/aggies/2011/08/legal-maneuvering-at-hand-in-aggies-plans-for-sec/ Also needs to get through Tex legislature. Texas State Rep. Dan Branch, the chairman of the Texas House Committee on Higher Education, called a hearing before his committee for Tuesday with Big 12, SEC and Texas A&M officials.Branch had said it would be "inappropriate" for Texas A&M to switch conferences before the hearing. http://huskerextra.com/sports/football/college/article_4dc18988-da3f-5d5d-bdfd-b9023f9ec0c2.html Quote Link to comment

Blackshirt316
Wait till the SEC meeting in Orlando on Wednesday. They won't say no to the Aggies then. Quote Link to comment
Hunter94
A&M has other options, they want out from under the shadow of Texas. Beebe messed up when he let Texas have their own network. with or without A&M, the Big 12 will soon fall apart....Texas will go their own way and it may cost them in the long run....but then you know how Texans think.. BigWillie
SEC did not say 'no' to aTm. The SEC is basically covering their butts for any potential lawsuits that could come. Remember how the Big East sued the ACC when Boston College, VA Tech and Miami switched conferences? The SEC is trying to avoid that same type of mess. aTm will kindly slide their application under the SEC's door, and the SEC will quickly approve. The SEC will then say they did not 'invite' anyone, and try to stay above any potential lawsuit. 3 Quote Link to comment

And the fact that the Aggie Board of Regents(which meet tomorrow) hasn't even approved their President to explore conference realignment(which will happen tomorrow) is a reason this "looks bad" for Aggie but in no way is. There are certain steps that need to take place in a certain order. This is far from over, and will be heard about again sooner more than later, Quote Link to comment
flatwaterfan
It's not that Texas has it's own network. It's what they and ESPN are trying to do with that network. Trying to claim a conference game really made them mad. Where does it end? First it was one, then it was 2 then.... Talk about evil empires. Quote Link to comment

My 4 year old son makes more sense, has better "sources", and doesn't backtrack/flipflop to cover his ass as much as Chip Brown. Quote Link to comment
Caven
I would guess the SEC meeting today was along the lines of - if A&M were to apply tomorrow, would they have the necessary votes to be accepted. If the answer is no, then A&M is informed that they shouldn't bother to apply. Since they are still meeting tomorrow, my guess is they have the votes once the application is official. Just like what happened with Nebraska and the Big 10. Quote Link to comment
