Pretty sure it's a joke. NU equipment likes to mess with people's heads on Twitter. Last week they posted cryptic links to an Adidas uniform ordering page with an awful outfit and asked "What do you guys think?" Some people took it seriously and started freaking out about uniform changes. They let the joke run a while before fessing-up.

 

I also don't think that's a competition helmet. You don't see the smooth, round shells any more. That's probably a mock-up of an older style helmet from some time ago.

I think that was a posed/staged photo, and very likely the subject of the photo WAS the helmet, with the gloves just serving as a smokescreen. I'd be VERY surprised if the helmets were black for Wisconsin. Though, personally, I do think it would be pretty cool.

Yeah, that would be pretty sweet looking. Red against a black background doesn't stand out very well.

It doesn't even look like that guy is walking. Sometimes, when someone is staging a walking photograph, you'll notice that both feet are firmly planted on the ground. However, if you ever watch anybody walk normally, the heel rises off the ground before the front foot is completely on the ground.

 

My guess is someone said "Stand right there and pretend to just be walking by."

 

Go ahead - try walking and pay attention to your feet. Both feet are never firmly planted flat on the ground.

100% staged. Either they'd have given it away entirely and shown a picture of the helmet itself, or they'd have cropped it out of the picture entirely.
