1/2fullhusker
It will, they will be extremely motivated this game......trust me. Also, no need to apologize, as this is a message board, and i knew as the newcomer what i was getting myself into. Hopefully one of many debates to come. Gotta go. Leavin now to head to the game. I'll be the one in red standing and yelling, so it should be easy to pick me out.....Go Big Red. Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
Im a football fan first and a Husker fan second. Probably a soccer fan third. By definition then, I think you would have to be seen as a "luke warm" Husker fan. I am a rabid Husker fan. Sure, I follow pro football, Dallas; pro baseball, Atlanta; pro basketball, L.A.; and pro hockey, NY Isles. But if you were to ask me if I would trade success by all those other teams for Husker success, I would do it, in a heart beat. And when the Huskers don't do well, then it's hard for me to watch football, or any other sport for that matter. Heck, it's hard for me to get through the rest of my Saturday when the Huskers lose. I would never choose to watch another sport instead of Nebraska and will always feel the sting of a Husker defeat more intensely and longer than I would with any of the other teams I follow. I type this wearing Husker gear. I wear that flavor of gear all year. I have more of it than anything else. If someone were to take away my Husker fandom, I think I would be little more than if you were to give me a full on frontal lobotomy. That is all. As you were. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
I'm 100% certain the excluded middle is HuskerBoard's favorite logical fallacy. 2 Quote Link to comment
irafreak
Hmmmm....if you really have been reading this forum for years then you should know that we get a thread questioning our fandom after almost every bad loss. And I find it amusing that someone who doesn't have time to post manages 35 of them in 6 hours... Quote Link to comment
knapplc
A True Husker Fan is someone who thinks what I think, who disagrees with the things I disagree with, who likes my favorite player and who wants to bench the same player I think should be benched. A True Husker Fan is someone who echoes my sentiments after a loss, who agrees with my take on the team's flaws, and whose rhetoric matches mine while discussing both. A True Husker Fan shares my taste in runzas, Valentino's pizza and Fairbury hot dogs. A True Husker Fan stands when I stand, shouts when I shout, sits when I sit and stays quiet when I stay quiet. A True Husker Fan shares my opinion of Lil' Red. A True Husker Fan shares my opinions on Nebraska's rivals, which conference we belong in, and which team we love/hate the most. A True Husker Fan agrees with me on that call the ref made - you know the one, in the third quarter, the one that affected the game? Yeah, that one. A True Husker Fan does a +1 on my posts when I declare something definitive. A True Husker Fan is someone who knows who the greatest QB, RB, WR and Coach at Nebraska is, and I don't even have to mention names, because they know. 3 Quote Link to comment

sd'sker
what makes a Husker fan? Is it someone who openly supports their team through good times(90's) and bad(2000's), no matter the criticisim they recieve at work, from rival fans, etc., or someone who can sit in their living room and badmouth the team, coaches and whoever else that doesn't live up to their expectations, all while not having to show their true face or name? i don't think those are mutually exclusive. What I'm getting at in that post is that we all have this idyllic image in our heads of what a "true Husker fan" is. Coincidentally, we all fit our own personal views of that "true Husker fan." I'm poking fun at that coincidence. Quote Link to comment
CornfedChris
Isn't it pretty sad we have people on here defining what a Husker fan is? A husker fan is a person who follows husker football plain and simple. Everyone has an opinion. No need for this thread. Quote Link to comment
Ziebol
One who loves this team if it goes 12-0 or 0-12. One who can criticize, respect hard work, and never turn your back when they do bad. One who bleeds Husker red 24/7. Quote Link to comment

Blackshirt39
Well said and i respect that. Never once did i say that criticism is not warranted. Losing does suck, and when you lose and hear how people think you are the sole reason and think that you need immediately replaced, it makes it that much worse. I sum it up as being like and accident, no one likes that it happened, but everyone wants to look, and that is why players, family, friends look on here, just to get a peek at the crashscene..... You said it with the first post! You are a model of Hypocrisy. Did you just get the Internet this week? I don't like all the personal attacks on the coaches and the players either, but guess what? It's their right to say it. If you don't like whats being discussed, then you don't have to read or listen. Isn't Democracy grand?! Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt39
I'm in the camp that thinks that trying to tell someone that they're not a true fan because they're not always sunshine-up-my-ass happy about the way their favorite team's performing is asinine. I want what's best for my favorite team. I want them to win. If I think a certain aspect of the team is preventing the team from winning, I am going to criticize it. Why? Because I can't stand to see the team I love fail. That's called "Pride" Hammerhead. And it's the only thing your guilty of. Others just let that go a long time ago and are now realizing what they miss. Quote Link to comment
Paul in WI
First of all, yes, I am a first time poster, but am someone who has read this board (and others) religiously for years to get info, to keep up with, and just be amongst other rabid husker fans year round. Time allows me to read, but to not post, so i have refrained this whole time. I am not a troll, but am someone who is ready to post after finally reading enough of this BS. First I have to ask, what makes a Husker fan? Is it someone who openly supports their team through good times(90's) and bad(2000's), no matter the criticisim they recieve at work, from rival fans, etc., or someone who can sit in their living room and badmouth the team, coaches and whoever else that doesn't live up to their expectations, all while not having to show their true face or name? I am all for an active debate on topics such as defensive alignments, offensive plays, the gameplan for upcoming opponents, etc., but to continuously and negatively spew the bs that has come about on this board and many others is starting to show our true colors as the spoiled and entitled must win society that we have become. I remember the years of Osborne and how he struggled to win the bowl games against speedier opponents. I remember the ones in which a call here or there decided a championship, or just another top five finish. The thing that set it apart from today, was that fact that the criticism was done in local coffee shops, in the stadium, or at someone's home during the game.....IN PERSON. If you criticized, everyone saw who it was and you had to back up your claims. Now, anyone can come on here and spew hate and criticisim knowing that no one will know who they are and that they cannot not held accountable for it, which is unlike what the players and coaches have to answer to, because they cannot hide. If you yelled at a quarterback in the past at a game, they could see who it was, as could several hundred fans around you, thus keeping things in check. Now, that same person can Boldly(insert sarcasm) comment on here and remain anonymous. I am as frustrated as anyone and as competitive as anyone when it comes to not only Husker football, but life, but I have realized that negativity does nothing but break down people and solves absolutely nothing. If you have kids, you should know this. Speaking of which, those of you criticizing, would you be doing and saying the same things about replacing the quarterback, safety, etc,. if it was your son, or would you want to encourage and support them to get better? So i go back to my original question, What makes a true Husker fan? Only you can answer that i guess, but please think about it, because these players and coaches have enough to worry about week in and week out from the other teams and fans throughout the country and national media, without having to also deal with it from their own.....so called fanbase. Ok, I'm done, I hope some of you think hard about this and begin actually supporting the team and not being part of the problem. I for one will be at the game tomorrow, standing, cheering and supporting my team, because they need it, and as a fanbase, so do we......... Thanks Reverend. Perhaps you'd like to lead by example by registering under your real name. When you do that, I might give your sermon a little more credence. Quote Link to comment
