I absolutely would like Frank to be part of this program again. I don't know that I would take him back to replace Bo because I think Bo has done a fair/mediocre job here so far. I would never have made the change in the first place back in 2003. I have many of the games on tape from Solich's stretch as HC. Our offense was really a great offense (we lacked a QB unfortunately). If you looked at the play calling and the physicality, Barney Cotton actually was a pretty darn good offensive coordinator. We were far more multiple then than we are now. When Solich finally made the decision to hire some new guys defensively you could tell that we were on the rise. Bo Pelini in my opinion belongs at the DC position. He still has a lot to figure out when it comes to being a HC, but he was top of the line as a DC. We definitely would have been a force to reckon with if that staff had been given another year and more from there. Frank, in my opinion, still represents everything good about Nebraska. I hope he has success no matter where he goes. I wonder if he could still strap on the pads and go out there, that guy was a beast in his Husker days.

Look at the numbers, the 2003 offense was worse than the 2002 offense. So just about everything you said here is statictally wrong. Here are the stats from the NU offical website.

http://www.huskers.c...5&db_oem_id=100

2002

NU Offense NU Defense

Yards per game 373 362

Yards per rush 5.2

PPG 27 24

Turnovers 20 25

2003 NU

Offense Defense

Yards per game 345 297

Yards per rush 4.3

PPG 25 15

Turnovers 31 53 (NCAA record)

So what you see here is the the big difference is that Bo's defense came in 2003 and set an NCAA record in getting turnovers that covered for a really crappy offense.

Yea, I don't really think I was talking about how great it was statistically. I can put the tape in now and see how much I just liked the style of football we played. The play calling was very effective and we seemed to have a good balance. We would line up and smash mouth it all the way down the field a lot of times. It might not have been flashy statistically, but it looked pretty effective to me. I guess my comment was stating my own preference for what a team should do offensively. I believe one of Frank's shortcomings was recruiting, and you could see that although the scheme was a good one, we didn't have a lot of great players to execute it anymore. Bo does a great job with defenses. We won't debate that. Frank deserves a lot of respect and credit for sticking to his values and keeping his integrity.

I don't have any problem with Frank in general but he was over his head as a HC or at least trying to be both HC and OC. I definitely don't think he was OC material and that caused a lot of problems.

Wouldn't have any trouble with him back on staff in another capacity but that seems pretty unlikely.

Would I want Frank Solich back at Nebraska?

As a Head Coach? No. I disagreed with the way he was let go. At the time I didn't think he deserved to be fired. But with that said, that ship has sailed, we have Bo and I am completely happy with Pelini as our head coach.

Would I want Frank Solich back at Nebraska as a position coach?

If he wasn't interested in retiring than yes I would love to see Frank back at Nebraska coaching running backs. His head coaching stint didn't go as well as many had hoped, but no one can deny that the man could flat out coach running backs!

Would I want Frank Solich back at Nebraska for a home game to honor his service to this program as a player, assistant coach, and head coach?

Absolutely! The man deserves to be recognized for the long commitment that he gave to this program for so many years.

I said maybe because the OP didn't say in what capacity Frank would be invited back to Nebraska. As a coach on the football team? No, he already has a job and we don't need him here. To honor him as a former Husker? That would be nice. To thank him for the years he put in as a coach here? That would be nice as well.

Question though: Why are we talking about this again? Is this the way it's going to be for the rest of the summer? Rehashing topics we've already discussed? I hope not.

Not as a head coach, but I do think he's given a bad rap especially on this board!

For a fired ex-coach I think Frank actually gets a tremendous amount of love and respect from Nebraska fans. Even those critical of his guidance of the program as head coach tend to cut him some slack and give him the deference he's due for a very long Nebraska career as a player and an assistant coach.

This post says it all. Poll question is somewhat misleading. A pretty vague "back". This post covers all bases and the majority of feelings for each situation.

+1 to both these.

GBR!!!

Frank Solich was fired by possibly the worst AD in the history of athletics. I cannot express that enough, the very worst AD ever. He (Solich) needed more time to prove himself. Hard to come into a situation where we dominated college football in the 1990s and think that it would continue in the next decade. Honestly, he got a raw deal. For what Solich did for Nebraska football during his lifetime, and getting sh!t on by Petedoushbag, I think Nebraska owes him an apologhy.

No, he's way too old now.

But firing him and Bo in 2003 for a bowl winning 10 - 3 season was stupid beyond any comprehension. Here we are eight years later and have yet to improve on a record Frank was fired for.

This is what I was referring to. He revamped the staff made progress and got canned....
