ladyhawke
Great article about the neat things that are happening to our guys! Maher is the #4 kicker in the NFL draft and has already been invited to the Combine! Good things are already happening for Rex, Will and Steinkuhler! Congrats to them all! http://sports.omaha.com/2013/01/04/good-things-happening-for-maher/ Quote Link to comment
True2tRA
I hope we see quite a few more players invited to the combine. I want Nebraska to be known as more than just Kicker U. Quote Link to comment
LumberJackSker
i think ben cotton might surprise a few people, not the best athlete but good hands and a great blocker if he could find a team that has a power running game he could make a roster Quote Link to comment
walksalone
Thats awesome... Makes me grin when I see the guys on NFL rosters... Quote Link to comment
HuskerShark
Very rarely does a kicker get drafted. To me, Maher had his great moments in his career, but he was really inconsistent this season, both punting and kicking. 1 Quote Link to comment
whateveritis1224
Part of his kicking might have been with his new holder (see most of his missed kicks were at the beginning of the year). I do think he's a better punter though. Quote Link to comment

Chris Brown got drafted. Josh Brown got drafted. Actually about 10 kickers per year get drafted to the NFL so your statement is incorrect. However, many more get 'try outs' than get drafted so maybe you're thinking of that aspect? Compared to the amount of kickers that get a 'try out' it would appear that kickers 'rarely' get drafted. Is that what you're thinking? Quote Link to comment

flatwaterfan
I also think he's a bit inconsistent. He can do both though so I think he will get a good shot at making it. I think free agency is in the cards. Quote Link to comment

I do think he's a better punter though. He had major issues with punting early. Watch ucla game. Quote Link to comment

Alex in round 4 was a pretty early kicker. Quote Link to comment

B.B. Hemingway
Imagine the fit Burkhead would be in New England. I would love too see him a Viking out of greed, but I envision him in New England...Perfect fit.... Ben Cotton is going to be a reliable TE in the league, but I don't expect Reed too catch on anywhere.... Quote Link to comment
zoogs
I cannot see New England taking Burkhead, with Ridley, Vereen, and Woodhead already in the fold and not enough carries to go around. I could see Reed catching on as an athletic H-back style tight end, because the NFL loves exploiting defenses with TEs now -- the NE model. I'm less sure about Cotton, who was solid as hell for us, but a lot of those kinds of guys don't seem to catch on in the league, while less productive but athletically gifted ones are often found places.
