Manziel at Nebraska

I checked out Texags and surprisingly a lot of their fans did not support him. There was though some AWESOMELY huge morons that were supporting him. Check out this quote.

quote:
but its a rule that breaking can get him suspended and basically screw the rest of his team and fans as well as his draft level. And for what...? money he didn't need.

That makes him selfish and stupid... whether its a good or bad rule, whether he took money or gave hundreds maybe thousands of signatures to brokers for free.

I wish he could make it too, he does deserve it. But that is quite beside the point...

That's like saying that Republicans shouldn't shut down government to stop ObamaCare, or Rosa Parks shouldn't have taken a stand because other people might get hurt.

I realize that the magnitudes are different, but the concept is the same. Bad laws need to be broken. It doesn't matter if he doesn't need the money, it's his. We should be praising him for doing the right thing.

I have never known a fan base that is more critical of their own players, coaches and team than Husker fans.

I have no doubt that a large number of Husker fans would be crucifying him right now if he were a Husker. Sure, he would have some people supporting him. But, the loudest voices would be people wanting him gone.

Glad to hear that, was hoping that was the case

The Aggies are SO DESPERATE to one up Texas that they are willing to sell their souls

What a great Opp to show the world how classy you are, blown chance

Looks like they are full blown SEC now, Aggie Code of Honor or not

His team mates should fill a pillow case with bars of soap, sneak into his room at night, and "take care of" the insufferable little bastard.

His antics should not be compared to LP. What LP did was wrong and disturbing in it's own way but there isn't much I hate worse than someone who has the world in the palm of their hand but chooses to flip the finger to all those who made it possible. MDB just begins to scratch the surface. Somebody needs to kick him in the nuts......daily.

Did you order the Code Red?!?!

You mention his money a lot. I don't think that is very relevant. Because he has money he is a douchebag?

He is a douche bag because he is a douche bag. Who cares if his parents bought him sh!t.

Anyhow, yeah it has gone way too far at this point. I mean part of it is the media spotlight and part of it is him being a tool. The off-season assault, I believe, was prior to his freshman year. Nebraska players have done that before, also. A lot of 18 year old kids have fake IDs and a lot have drank underage... once again, so have Nebraska players. He flashes money that -he- has, because he can. Nothing illegal about that. The combination of all this stuff makes him a pretty poor teammate it would appear, but last time someone appeared to be a distraction - Cam Newton - he won a national championship, so I'm sure as long as he doesn't continue to get into trouble with the law (which he has pretty much avoided as of lately) then I don't see a real reason to justify kicking him off the team - also dependent upon how this autograph thing goes. Innocent until proven guilty, remember.

Money is one of two primary sources that lead to douchebaggery. The other is pride.

That's a good point. It's the attitude, not the money. Look at Russell Wilson. His parents are fairly affluent. Went to high school at a private Virginia prep school. But Wilson, unlike Manziel, didn't cause problems off the field. Remember the articles two years ago about Russell leading the offseason workouts *before* he was even named the starter at Wisconsin? Having THAT work ethic and attitude is how he carved out a niche for himself in the NFL. I don't see Manziel going as far as Russell Wilson in the NFL. Even though Manziel probably has more God given natural ability.

He DIDNT need the money, so why put your teammates season at risk over money you DIDNT need? Goes to character

His family are trust funders- kid has unlimited $$$. He's always been enabled, got whatever he needed whenever he wanted it, never said no to- not used to ANY boundaries

Heck he is on his second Mercedes now

Wasnt like he was starving and trying to scrape together $400 for a plane ticket home to visit mom

He got into trouble was a Redshirt Frosh- he was at Northgate right across from school when the fight happened. He had time to take his shirt off to fight and everything. That didnt happen in High School- he DID BTW get in trouble for alcohol related offense in HS as well

It's a pattern of reckless, self centered and selfish behavior

IS winning $$$ in a casino at age 20 bad? Probably not. BUT it's illegal and then to take pics and POST IT ON TWITTER AND FACEBOOK? It goes to his pattern of stupidity.

Dumber than a bag of rocks- IMO feels entitiled, untouchable, selfish- that's why I feel 100% sure he didnt sit in his room for 2 hours signing 100s of items for free from an autograph broker

If anyone believes he did that for free, Im sure Aliens, Ghosts, the Lock Ness Monster and Big Foot were all in the room too along with Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa

That reminds me of a great line (not funny, but great) from SportsNight. Danny tries to take a stand and not back down and apologize for a comment he made in an interview, and asks if Rosa Parks should've apologized. Isaac takes him aside and says "Danny, you know I love you, but no rich white boy from the suburbs ever got anywhere with me comparing himself to Rosa Parks!"

Money doesn't make you a douchebag, but it certainly makes you behave a lot differently, and more often than not it makes you behave in "douchbaggy" ways. Don't believe me? Here is one of a series of psychological studies that make the same connection.

http://www.pnas.org/...09/11/4086.full

Seven studies using experimental and naturalistic methods reveal that upper-class individuals behave more unethically than lower-class individuals.

Of the things listed, the things I would have a problem with is the bar fight and the taking money for autographs.

Agreed. As a HC, I might have an issue with one of my players having an employee at their disposal, too.

An "employee" who posted a pic of himself with a trash bag of small bills filled up about 2/3, it was taken down a couple of days ago- Ive seen it

He and his friends are as smart as a pile of rocks- attention whores, very dumb ones

Guys that arent smart, but think they are, get themselves into jams like this

Seen it before- kids who have a bunch of $$$, didnt earn it. Think they are smarter than others, because of said cash- but get burned big time until they finally figure out there is no correlation between what someone else earned (not them) and their own intelligence.

You can gamble as a 18 year old, I've done it. It's not illegal. It is, however, illegal in certain places due to the alcohol being served like candy in a welcome bin. I don't doubt that he signed the autographs, but you still need proof + evidence to confirm that he was indeed paid for his services. If there is no paper trail, there is no way for the NCAA to "convict" him of wrong doing. Do I think he was paid and did it? Yeah, but I don't have proof. Burden of evidence is on us, not Manziel. Some people forget that is how the court system works.

Count me in the crowd who doesn't care about MINOR alcohol related offenses prior to 21. Minor in consumption/possession? BFD. Don't care.

His lifestyle is not relevant. Don't turn him into a bad guy because he has money - turn him into a bad guy because thats what he is.

All I'm saying is - "Uber rich spoiled brat, drives Mercedes, mom&dad move to College Station and buy big house for him and them, Spoiled, enabled, narcisisst

He makes slashing gestures after scoring TDs- no respect to his opps- trash talker", "Takes PICS of himself with 1000s of $$ at casino and POSTS THEM on facebook and twitter" Those comments have nothing to do with what makes Johnny a liability as a football player to their program, his personal choices, not his money, are what makes him a liability - that could go off the wagon at any time. Stick to the things that he does that are illegal or unethical.

For instance, I believe Taylor Martinez is a fairly well off guy, who drives a nice car, whose parents relocated numerous times to accommodate his needs. Is he not spoiled, enabled and a narcissist? Did Taylor not finger wag all of Kansas States audience as a freshman?

What sets Johnny apart is his knucklehead behavior off the field, so stick to that. Thats all.

Do I care? Nope

But to post pics of it with money fanned on facebook and twitter- goes to his stupidity, need for attention etc

It's why Im positive he took money for autographs and hired "uncle nate" an equally dumbell, to set up several
