Tommie Frazier Twitter reaction

Recommended Posts

Did any of you posting in this thread listen and/or watch the post game interviews with players?

Ill just say this.........if the world was full of internet and interviews with players back when Tommie Frazier played, you would have had a much different reaction from him than what we saw on the interviews by the players today......and to Tommies credit......that is exactly what makes him GREAT and a HALL OF FAME college player. All of the player interviews today.....everyone one of them sounded the same......"so what happened.....what was the problem"........the players responses.....ALL of them...... "well......I don't know;;;;;;I can't say........Ill have to watch the film........I don't quite know".............DO YOU THINK TOMMIE FRAZIER WOULD HAVE HAD THAT RESPONSE TO A LOSS BACK IN HIS DAY? Heck no he would have......and he probably would have ticked alot of his team mates off for calling them out and saying what he thought (which is why he never got voted a captain)........but GEE, look what he did on the field........that is the difference between a GREAT PLAYER and a mediocre player!!!!!! Step up.......put the team on your shoulders all be damned.....and make it happen......and that is what Tommie Frazier ALWAYS did......and what Nebraska is desperately missing now

We had newspapers and radio. Was just as efficient. Just happened to be 24 hours later. We knew what they had to say just the same.

Yeah but you didn't see their faces and hear their voices..........and it was 1 line quotes in Sundays paper......not a 10 minute interview. Back in the 80s and 90s we knew the player by what they did on the field and a quick 1 liner by the reporter at the end of the game if we were lucky enough to be "on tv".......that was the "personality we knew"........I remember loving John Meltons show on PBS for the weekly review show to see what "guest" he would have on so I could get to know them better LOL Don't have that problem today.......these players are put in front of a mic 10-15 minutes after the game and have to answer to a room full......TOTALLY different and actually shows us ALOT about them......and its not reall pretty when you watch them LOL

I don't pretend to know the nitty-gritty of football coaching philosophy, but any casual observer can see we are going in the wrong direction, and the blowout meltdowns are not tempering at all. It's like there's no middle ground in the Pelini era when it comes to losing where we are barely beat in an otherwise good game (the kinds of loses most people can take without punching things)...we either have a total meltdown, win very ugly, or miracle our way back into the game in the big games.

What i think he's talking about Defense is simply due to our tradition of the Blackshirts. When you talk Huskers, you talk the Blackshirts. Currently the blackshirts are being trounced yearly by teams and all over the country are now being called things such a pinkskirts and crap like that. When someone is proud of the heritage that is Husker football, you tend to get a little upset about the embarrassment that is our defense as of the last 4 years.

I believe Tommie is correct and I look forward to his comments about the offense. Bo wants to run this defense and it's tradition into the ground(assuming he's the actual guy calling defensive plays) he better be ready to accept the fate he receives when the chickens come to roost.

The defense played a solid first half, good enough to have been up even more than 21-10. The offense proceeded to stink for 2.5 quarters. We knew the defense was green and would need some help. We knew Mora would make better adjustments at halftime than Bo.

What was not expected was the complete stinker that the offense threw up in the 2nd half, especially when even one good drive probably keeps us two TDs closer heading into the 4th.

We all know that hiring Bo was a mistake, that has been apparent for a while.

In hindsight we all should find this as no surprise. The biggest problem with this team right now aside from coaching is at the QB position. We have no pocket presence, no option game, and a weak passing game. Did I mention we rushed for -13 yards from the QB position. What did we complete, 6 of our last 17 passes. No, running the ball more was not the answer, we couldn't do that effectively either.

It's been pretty obvious for a while we've seen the ceiling of our current QB strategy, and its not a conference championship or even a bowl win.

Get the option QB in. It's time to stop fooling around and get serious about the future. I am fine with the senior QB playing, but we've got to mix it up. Unfortunately this is not something the coaching staff will pick up soon enough if at all. I guess it has to get uglier.

I put this one more on the offense. We would not get out gained 300 yards to 500 if they did their job. The offense was supposed to be unstoppable like 83 and 95 NU, what a laugh. It starts and ends with QB play. We don't have it. Sadly it sits right there on our bench.

Zoogies,

You are one of the most level headed posters on here.

But Tommy has earned the right to comment on this team, more so than anyone on this board. His voice will be heard, and things need to change.

I really do not know what needs to be done, but have been screaming for a real OC and DC since both hirings. I think Bo can get it done, but he has to take the Dabo path. Had he done that, I think we would be in much better shape. I think there is still time to do that. But stubbornness is one of Bo's strong suits. And that of never taking the blame. The first half showed we have some talent. It needs to be put in place by qualified Coordinators, let Bo manage the team as a head coach is supposed to do. Spend the money, bring in talent and reap the rewards. It has worked for Dabo, Saban does it. Why can't we.

This^ We are NU and like Tommie, we deserve a better product. This is not some FCS school where guys can learn on the fly. It is one of the winningest programs of all time. 5 NC's, 3 Heisman winners etc..... Dabo spent big bucks and to date, it is paying off. Same with Bama. Bo is in rare company with the whole 9 wins per year. Imagine if we had competent staff to support him?

<img class="UMSRatingIcon" id="ums_img_tooltip" />

In all sports, no one deserves anything more than anyone else. I get tired of people saying we deserve more than what we are getting.

Deserve might be a poor word choice. We can afford better, get better, hire better etc because of our storied history, name cache, facilities etc.... Hiring your HS buds is a dumb a$$ move. Something I would expect from a lower tier school with none of the above enticements we offer.

This I wholeheartedly agree with.

If Bo doesnt get back to 9 wins at minimum, he's out. Even if he gets to 9, or even 10, and the style of losses are status quo as our losses have become, and we finish the reg season on a low note, I still wouldnt be sure. I've never disagreed with this line of thinking. Dont necessarily disagree with it, but today was certainly disturbing.

Even some of the wins feel like loses. South Dakota State 2012 and Wyoming 2013 come to mind.

We all knew hiring Bo was a mistake? Like all the people who liked the hire when it was announced? That same we?

If we couldn't run the ball effectively, how is that the quarterback's fault?

It sits right where on our bench? How do we know that Armstrong will work out? What if he has the same issues? We don't know, because he hasn't been in a game where the pressure is high and the lead is not 40.

I don't believe if you had 11 Tommys on the field , with this teams game plan even he could not pull it out.

I think he would.......with no problem. This issue is NE has nothing CLOSE to the mental toughness of a Tommie.....its not a physical or athletic issue......it's a mental issue regardless of play calling as messed up as that play calling might be. TOMMIE FRAZIER would not have went 3 plus quarters scoreless and running around looking like a chicken with his head cut off.........GREAT players make something out of nothing......which is what makes them great........NE has no GREAT players right now.......so they will continue to be 9 or 10 and 3 or 4. Perfect example is Tommies run in the fiesta bowl.....not a GREAT play call by any means.......the dude was swarmed by the entire defiense........BUT HE HAD MORE HEART that all of those defensive players did......and he ran it for a TD when he was dead to rights.......his heart and gut made him bust it......not a great coach or play call. TM see defenders coming 5 yards away and stops runing and stand there waiting for them to hit him. NE needs some PLAY MAKERS right now as much as they need better coaching..........imo

Finally, thank you! QB play is our biggest problem right now. You simply have to be able to improvise and make something out of nothing from that position. Our QB just panics and goes into a shell. If he doesn't drop the ball in the process or fling it wildly while falling, its a ten yard loss and the drive is OVER. And we've seen this over, and over, and over.

We have some of the best skill position talent we've ever had, aside from QB. We're just trying to be nice about it. This is a message board and I'm calling it like I see it, the QB play stinks. It's time for change there, touchdown Tommy to the rescue!

2009

VT, your right about that

TT, total meltdown shocker

ISU, worst Husker game I've ever been too...ever

UT @ CCG, sideline pissing, yelling, etc., total embarrassment to the program

2010

UT, everyone gets their revenge t-shirts out, we get embarrassed by a very mediocre team at home

A&M, more sideline pissing and yelling, possibly the most embarrassing game for the program ever

ISU, we needed a miracle to beat the fearsome Cyclones

OU @ CCG, we basically threw it away, although the OC burned his last bridge here

WU @ bowl, hey, we don't need to play, what a bad bowl

2011

@ Wisconsin, totally embarrassed

OSU, the miracle of miracles

NW, good game, but we threw it away

@ Michigan, totally embarrassed, another classic turnover fiesta meltdown

SC @ bowl, another meltdown

2012

The absolute beatdowns at the hands of OSU and Wisconsin should still be fresh in our memories.

I could probably take these a little easier if Bo had some PR skills and less of a temper. There's no indication he's a bad person and he does a lot of good things off the field, but he also seems to have the personality of someone who is hopelessly stubborn and surrounds himself with yes men.
