Chimalli
Let's all pull up a chair and play HB's favorite game, "What If". Aaron Torres's article from June 2011 talks about the imapct of West Virgina losing to Pitt Dec. '07 along with Mizzou losing to OU the same weekend. http://www.aarontorres-sports.com/articles/college-football/the-what-if-game-how-one-loss-changed-michigan-west-virginia-and-ohio-state-forever.html (on my iPad no cool link tools, btw way MODS make this site more iPad friendly plz) Playing along, let's say LSU never makes the BCSNCG and Les Miles goes to Michigan. Does anyone think Bo Pelini would've been hired as Nebraska's head coach? I know we hired him prior to LSU defeating tOSU, however IMO LSU getting to the BCSNCG gave Pelini immediate credibility over the rest of the candidates. Quote Link to comment

Immediate credibility over Turner Gill at Buffalo or Jim Grobe at Wake Forest? I can see that. Quote Link to comment
Ulty
I think Pelini still would have gotten the job, unless LSU made a better offer and promoted him to HC in Miles' place. The Miles to Michigan rumors happened at the same time that LSU was getting ready for the championship game, while NU was also firing Callahan. As soon as Pederson was fired, it was a foregone conclusion in many fans' minds that Callahan would follow at the end of the season, and Pelini and Gill were immediately the popular choices are far as fan speculation went, even before anyone knew LSU would be in the title game. When Pelini was hired, Osborne mentioned that one of the main factors in hiring Pelini over Gill was that it was the defense that needed the greatest overhaul. Whether or not LSU made the title game did not change that. Pelini still would have been here. Quote Link to comment

Gill is still all NEBRASKA and still reps the Husker brand with 100% class, one thing IMO that is for sure is that there would be no on field tirade/meltdowns all of us have come accustomed with now. Looking back at the roster from the '08 - '09 seasons, all most anyone could have went 8 - 4 with the roster at that time (except the guy we fired). With the cupboard empty of Callahan's recruits Bo's defense has been moderately successful to downright embarrassing these last two seasons. It seems like a 50-50 shot Turner Gill could have done the same thing. Plus, Nebraska would have had it's first Black coach which would have been awesome. Kansas did Gill dirty. Quote Link to comment

Turner Gill would have had little to no success it would have been a continuation of the BC years Quote Link to comment
NebraskaHarry
Yeah I have to believe that Turner Gill would have had little success as head coach at Nebraska. We would have probably chased him out after 2 years. Quote Link to comment
Redux
No way Gill couldve brought us out of that mess. Yeah the talent was there but a coaching change doesnt equal immediate success with it. Quote Link to comment
roadrat
We will never know because we have no idea what assistant coaches Gill could have hired. I do understand when he was at KU, opponents often said that the Jayhawks were the by far the worst coached team they had ever seen. Quote Link to comment
Chimalli
I'm on the fence about Bo but this sums it up: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g5v7KBKC8hg/UiOSiPKU9_I/AAAAAAAABCs/1w2f8fNN4qg/s1600/2013Week1-3.png Quote Link to comment

Interesting, looking back Jim Grobe and Brian Kelly were also candidates. EDIT: was not intending this to turn into a Bo bashing thread, I am in awe how the outcome one CFB game can change the landscape nationally. Quote Link to comment
