I don't agree that he can't run it outside, but I do agree he is better up the middle. Just like Newby is better outside, then up the middle.

I'm wondering when/if we will see the cross in the back field as a FB that was mentioned during camp. I thought that someone said there was a "new look" involving cross and ameer at the same time

We need to get Imani and AA involved in the game more than we do. Whether its in the passing game or the run game they need more touches.

I would love to see him come in on 3rd and shorts. Sometimes give it to him up the middle... and open up the bootleg pass for the rest of the game.

We really haven't needed to use him, except maybe to wear down M state. As far as using him and AA, there also hasn't been a need to show that wrinkle right now, and the team prob hasn't put those plays into the pregame prep for any of the three games.

i don't think i have ever seen Beck put those 2 on the field at the same time......it just isn't Beck!

There are some "major" wrinkles in the running game that the team executes in practices but have not shown in games (according to some who have attended practices since the spring). I assume we wil see these plays in East Lansing (maybe against Miami).

Pretty sure the only mention of him at FB was on this board. There were several reports of there being two backs together on the field (AA, Cross, Newby, Taylor pre-injury) and we've seen a little of that so far but it's a split-back or diamond formation look.

I'd like to see him run towards the left side (Lewis/Cotton) out of the diamond formation. I think he could probably get the chance to unload on a backer or safety, especially in 3rd & short situations.

I would also like to see him run with the power he has. He needs to hit the whole hard and not be afraid to run their asses over. Sometimes patience is good but it can also really hurt you too. His skills set is to punish whoever trys to tackle him and then he has the speed it looks like to gain big yards

Exactly how upset are we by an offense with a 2:1 run/pass ratio that gains 280 yards rushing, 280 yards passing and scores six touchdowns with six different players? Two weeks after setting the all-time Big 10 record for total offense.

 

Truth is, we didn't run a lot of plays Saturday because we were getting 50, 60 and 70 yards on individual plays. You can say we are dependent on big plays, or be happy that these relatively simple and not-at-all "cute" plays were extremely successful. I'm leaning to the latter.

I agree with Finbraydullah. I think Newby will be very good. But if AA were to go out with injury today, Cross is the starter. Give him the carries.

Seems like Imani is cool with it. I'm sure he would like more touches, but the offensive production and the wins speak loud enough.
