SWAMI
Um..OK. Not a splash hire...but along that line....where did the notion that there would be a "splash" hire get started? Was it amongst the fans, or was there an actual comment from the AD or his staff saying it would be a "splash"? Honest question. Is this just something our raging anticipation grew disproportionately? That notion came from Rodney Dangerfield right before the Triple Lindy. Link to comment
T_O_Bull
Apparently we offered BERT but he turned it down to stay at Arkansas. So this guy is the second choice to him Says a lot. Do we know for a fact that BERT was offered? If, and I do mean IF, thank God he said no. Would have been a 3/5 year disaster. Feel sorry for the Razorbacks. T_O_B Link to comment
Ziebol
Hey the good news is he can renew his hatred for Oregon in 2016-2017 when we play them. Link to comment
SWAMI
Should have kept bo Quickly! Stop Bo's plane from taking off. Link to comment
drmathprog
It's a 'splash' hire for everyone, it seems, except those of us here in NE. If we are preparing for a HUSKER SATURDAY GAME this time next year....Shawn will be a genius. I like our odds to be honest. Dig in a little (I had to dig a lot, I knew nothing about the dude) - and the sun starts shining. Turned down USC twice Turned down Bama (where he played for Bear!) The # of dudes he puts in the NFL QB development Ability to manage communication properly to all parties WELL RESPECTED EVERYWHERE An amazing recruiter Agrees with the Nebraska Nice way Will likely have a great staff due to the respect in circles Will likely embrace and promote our great traditions, not the least of which will be the Blackshirts (which I think is one of NUs biggest marketing tools and needs to be leveraged) More cool stuff I've read about him too...........tired of typing from phone.... I hope you're right. Link to comment

shyndy
My one worry is, is this another west coast guy? Not that I have problems with west coast offense, I'm just super worried about having the square peg round hole syndrome again. Both Callahan and Pelini were guilty of it on offense during their first few years. All the QB's on our roster are run threat types, hopeful the new staff doesn't try to force them into being pure pocket qb's Link to comment
Joe_5700
Dan Hoppen @danhoppen 1m1 minute ago Worth noting - Mike Riley offered and recruited Johnny Stanton hard at Oregon State. That does ease my offensive philosophy nervousness a bit... I remember when Callahan was hired and people were creating these STUPID jpg's of red Husker jets depicting our new air attack..what a f-ing joke that was. If I see another one of those red Husker jets I will punch someone. Link to comment
SWAMI
Our AD heard there was a pretty good coach in Oregon, he just called the wrong one. I can see how a mistake like that can happen. 1 Link to comment

olddominionhusker
What a disaster................I'm truly at a loss for words. I want to give the guy a chance, but I can't get over the feeling I have right now. I said a few days ago, this HAS to be the right hire or it'll drive this program to the depths from where it may never recover. I guess time will tell how this is going to go, but I have my doubts.............. My thoughts exactly. I feel completely empty inside. This was not a homerun hire. This was not a splash. I would challenge anyone to argue this is an upgrade over Pelini. Go on; someone explain how we are far better off with Riley as our head coach than Bo. In football who knows, but I doubt Riley will hate the fans and create the toxic atmosphere Bo did. He should be able to keep us at 9-4 in this sh**ty division without too much difficulty. So if we are going to be mediocre I guess it should be with someone who doesnt have complete disdain for us. Just answering your question BTW. I hate the hire but Bo needed to go away. I just was hoping we try and upgrade on the footbal side but apparently 9-4 is OK with Admin as long as the coach is nice about it 1 Link to comment
Husker Q
He is an amazing coach and will do incredibly well at NU. I couldn't have wished for a better choice except maybe McElwain cold be a stud. Such a great hire!!!! I was laughed at when I started PleaseFireCallahan.com and laughed at when I said Osborne was coming back as AD with Pelini as coach. #truth I BLEED RED.....is back Wouldn't an "amazing" coach actually win. SWAMI
His recruiting classes are not much to work with, If he able to pull 3-4 **** recruits instead od 2-3, then make good use of that talent by maturing it into something more than it was when they came to campus, Maybe---Just maybe. Over all had hopes for something different, feel like its Christmas and I just got a lump of coal Part of coaching is recruiting. Link to comment
