True Freshmen - Who Plays?

Recommended Posts

I hope they all redshirt.

I only hope they redshirt if it turns out it was a waste to burn their redshirts. I want the best players on the field. I'd like to think this will be managed better than the last staff who had Aaron Green and Braylon Heard both burn their redshirts to share like 20 carries the whole season. They probably left it up to the players but I'm not sure that's the best idea. (They also left it up to the players to play injured if they wanted to).

One I am not counting out is Dashon Neal. He is freakish athlete that just might find his way on the field.

I think he's a really good athlete. I just think he probably needs to get stronger to be an effective DE. He could probably do some things this year but I think he'd be better served to spend an year in the weight room and at the training table.

If the kids are ready to play and provide depth, I say let them play.

Yup.

I don't know what some coaches are waiting for. If he's ready, get him out there. Not a damn thing wrong with getting some experience. Just make it count. Don't burn a redshirt then play the guy 4 plays in the season, that is stupidity.

Freshman are making plays for teams all over the country. Too much turnover and too much can change. If they can help your team now, you get em in there early and often.

I agree I just remember Grant Wistrom as a skinny 6'5" 230 freshman coming into games and the coaches telling him to go get the qb.

Neal is that type of athlete, if he has the same moter, you never know.

Even though Jordan Stevenson isn't officially on the roster yet, he's another one that's likely to see PT this fall.

That would be nice, but I think comparing Neal to a two-time all-american and Lombardi winner is a bit ambitious.

yeah, but he wasn't that as a freshman. No, I would never do that, I doubt he ever lives up to being a GW type of player, I just think the measureables compare well. Wistrom had that motor that never quit it is something you can't teach guys. Joey Bosa would be a good comparison in today's game. Though he is a little bigger than GW.
