Popular Post KazLong
http://www.knowitallfootball.com/2015/11/02/dear-husker-nation-letter-oregon-state-fan/ Found it interesting. Dear Husker Nation, As a huge Oregon State fan, I have experienced your pain, tenfold. Mike Riley is not the man for the job. He wasn’t the man in Corvallis either. I have lost count of how many games we have lost to the Ducks in a row. Some of those were just outright embarrassing blowouts to not only Oregon, but other conference opponents! Sacramento State and Eastern Washington were other games that should have been easy wins that Riley and company lost. Don’t get me started with his awful clock management ‘skills’. He is a smooth talker, I will give him that. I get your pain. He holds on to Banker and Langsdorf like a newborn with stuffed animals. Banker, from what I understand is already a bad word in Lincoln. When Riley left for the Chargers, we then hired Dennis Erickson. He went 5-6 in his first season. He then went 11-1 the following year — primarily with Riley’s recruits. Riley has recruited talent, don’t get me wrong, but it seems that the skills the recruit comes in with are usually what he leaves with. While Riley is a really nice guy and does create a family atmosphere, he is not the guy that will achieve the sustained success that Oregon State would LOVE TO HAVE or that Nebraska has had and deserves! They say all new coaches should have a few seasons to get their schemes in place and their type of recruits, etc. Well, he had 13 seasons at Oregon State and we only had one real season of success. I am sorry, but I am not a fan of Las Vegas or San Francisco bowls at Oregon State. I couldn’t imagine that going over very well in Lincoln either. Riley never challenged for the Pac-12 or Pac 10 title. In closing, don’t do what Oregon State and Bob DeCarolis did and keep Riley forever. Move on as fast as you can. 7 6 Quote Link to comment
BIG ERN
I brought up some of these points a few weeks ago. Especially the Dennis Erickson one. The nice guy talk is the dumbest excuse ever. We act like Bo taught Satanism on campus in his spare time. Lets quit trying to make sense of a hire that never made sense. 1 Quote Link to comment
zoogs
Oregon State fans have their own 2-6 season to worry about. It's no wonder some of them have taken to penning letters. As for the "who cares if he's" -- what, professional? A guy who has his priorities straight? A guy we should be happy (at least from an off-field standpoint) is in charge of the student-athletes at UNL? ... disappointing opinions , but it comes with the territory of losing in a passionate environment. Agree to disagree. Nebraska class is a huge source of pride for me. I have only very tangential ties to the university or the state, but that feeling that it's a special place with special people is why it is always my favorite program to follow. 6 Quote Link to comment

Yeah, but they are coming off a horrible season with ol Riley and Co. So a 2-6 start is nothing new, coming into a situation that you have the talent to win 10 games with competent coaching and to be 2-6 is just a head scratcher. The biggest disappointment isnt the losing, but the lack of progress in all 3 phases as the season has progressed. We are just as bad on defense as we were to start the season. Offense looks just as clueless as to who they want to be. Hope it all turns around, but i have seen nothing to indicate that is happening. Quote Link to comment
southernoregonhusker
During the four years I went to OSU, we had 5 wins in total. That was before Riley. The fan who wrote the letter is obviously a younger fan who has no idea of OSU's football history. Riley turned it around and got close to 2 Rose Bowl appearances. That's a big deal for a school with a terrible history in football. Thinking DONU has 10 win talent is delusional. The D is devoid of any talent except for the a few. Even our All World Safety can't tackle very well. On O, the line is terrible as are the backs. Newby goes down easier than a 2 dollar hooker. 2 Quote Link to comment

Who do we have that is equivalent to Randy Gregory? Who do we have that is equivalent to Kenny Bell? Who do we have that is equivalent to Zaire Anderson? Now add in about 20 different injuries and maybe, just maybe you guys might start to understand that we are very talent deficient. Yes, we have some talented players on the team right now, but you need more than 5 or 6 (or even 11). You need around 20-30 talented players to compete, and 30-40 to start thinking championships. 3 Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Like 25%+ of our contributing roster is walk-ons. I'm not saying we have the talent of a 3-5 team by any means, but a cakewalk to 9 wins this season was not ever going to be. Illinois is a better team than last year, Miami is arguably the same or better, BYU is a better opponent than Macneese State or whoever, Southern Miss is much improved this year, Wisconsin is about on par, Minnesota is slightly down, Iowa is significantly better, MSU is still elite, Northwestern is notably better, Purdue is, believe it or not, quite a bit better than last year as well. 1 Quote Link to comment

Who do we have that is equivalent to Zaire Anderson? Nate Gerry is still here. He was second on the team in tackles last year behind Anderson. Enough with the excuses Rilievers.... 5 Quote Link to comment

You can twist that any way you want. 3-6 is still 3-6 at the end of the day. And if you want to say Purdue is better because they beat a terrible Nebraska team, then good for you. 7 Quote Link to comment

Agreed, we have no one better than Ameer and for that matter DPE last year. (those two won us two games (arguably three) last year by themselves) Maliek Collins was here last year, and doesn't even play the same position. My question still remains, who is equivalent to Randy Gregory. Westercamp was here last year as well, Who do we have to replace Kenny's deep threat and blocking skills? Nate Gerry doesn't play the same position as Zaire Anderson, and was obviously here last year as well. So what you are saying is we are still good, because we replaced 4 MAJOR contributors with players that were already on the team last year? Ok, if you want to play that game. Who takes those guy's place then? You can't take 22-4 and have it still equal 22 (no matter how hard you wish it to be true) 1 Quote Link to comment

Do you feel the loss of 2 players constitutes a rebuilding year???? It doesn't matter that we don't have the equivalent of a Randy Gregory at DE ready to fill his shoes this year because first off what team is going to re load like that? I listed Maliek Collins simply because you're implying that by losing Randy Gregory who else do we have left this year that is just as good? You're not going to have a guy step in a be 'as good' as Randy was at DE last year unless you catch lightening in a bottle. Were you really expecting that? Regardless there are enough players from last years team that won 9 games to warrant having a far, far better record than this years 3-6 record but it's painfully obvious from your posts that this is the fact that you simply cannot and do not want to come to terms with...... zoogs
Exactly. Oregon actually does need to be rebuilt. And Anderson already has multiple 4* commits in his recruiting class. Something Riley hadn't done at OSU for years.. 2 in '16 0 in '15 (halfway class) 0 in '14 1 in '13 2 in '12 1 in '11 4 in '10 1 in '09 1 in '08 (5 star) 2 in '07 2 in '06 3 in '05 2 in '04 But yes, Gary Andersen is a good coach. He was hired by Wisconsin, after all. Oregon State got lucky and he's a worthy successor to Riley -- another coach they were lucky to have. Hopefully for them he can build off the "working with less" recruiting machinery they had to build up there. Quote Link to comment
