Why recruiting matters, and the importance of signing day

There are rare QB talents like those mentioned above, and then there are the guys who are just really competent, consistent and don't make mistakes. Those guys can win you championships, too. Like the QBs at Alabama whose names you forget.

Helps when the rest of the roster is made up of 4 and 5* guys--2-3 deep.

Alabama has signed... 15 elite (4 and 5 star) players today. 5 of the fifteen... are 5 star players.

Florida State has signed 19 elite (4 and 5 star) players today.

Ohio State has signed 17 elite (4 and 5 star) players today.

Michigan has signed 16 elite (4 and 5 star) players today.

Clemson has signed 13 elite (4 and 5 star) players today. 3 are 5 star players.

You get the picture.

What was Michigan's recruiting class ranked last year?...50th.... and they signed only 6 elite players last year.

That's the difference hiring an elite-winning-great recruitng coach makes.

And there are far fewer elite-winning-great-recruiting coaches than there are 5 star players.

Harbaugh was the only one last year, and he was only going to Michigan.

Congratulations to a member of our Nebraska football family... Scott Frost.

SF took his program from near last place (116-?)... to a 55th place finish in this years recruiting classes.

SF got a 4 star receiver to flip to his program at the last minute. SF's program signed 2 4-star players and 9 3-star players.

Great considering he just got there a few months ago and that he is a first time head coach at a small program.

Now teach them how to run the football Scott !

Uhhh... you forgot Tom Herman at Houston.

Recruiting has always mattered and while this class isn't top 15 material, I still think #24 is pretty remarkable for the year we had and we did end up with the best recruiting class in the west division. If recruiting can continue to get better and we compete with the east teams and show up for conference championships (hopefully win one) then we'll definitely have a bright future. We have to win, period.

We're talking about great coaches. Herman achieved greatness in his first year as a head coach. That doesn't happen very often.

So... of course... he got offers... and he's going to get a lot more offers... that's what happens when you prove yourself to be a great coach.

I agree, for the year we had, this was an awesome recruiting year. To bring in the 24th ranked class is a lot better than I thought. I LOVE the OL focus and we have some fantastic skill position potential. The defensive backfield will have some great additions. MR and staff did very well. He will be on the hot seat to improve on field performance.

As far as 5-star and more 4-star talent, with depth at each position, that will take time and continued success on Saturday. Hey, kids have always been fickle and they are probably more than ever these days. They want to win now. Heck, WE want to win now! More wins gets more interest. Win the West next year and all of a sudden we have a top 15 class. The year after, maybe top ten? For tonight, let us appreciate the great crew brought in to represent.
