BigRedBuster
For the Mets getting swept by the Braves. And just to make it worse they were robbed of a walk-off HR last night. That was an absolute amazing catch. I was watching it on MLB when it happened. So....what's the mechanism to deal with a three way tie for the wild card? I'm having a problem deciding which team I would rather play in the first round. Cards: Big rival so weird things tend to happen. Giants: They tend to get hot in the off season and play better than in the regular season. Mets: We just haven't had good luck against them this year. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
It looks like they use records between the teams and they use about the most convoluted process imaginable. 2. Three Clubs Do Not Have Identical Records Against One Another• If Club 1 and 2 have identical records against one another, but each has a better record against Club 3, then Clubs 1 and 2 would follow the two-Club tiebreak rules to break their tie to pick the first designation....Three-Club Tie for Two Wild Card Spots:After Clubs have been assigned their A, B and C designations, Club A would host Club B. The winner of the game would be declared one Wild Card winner. Club C would then host the loser of the game between Club A and Club B to determine the second Wild Card Club. As I see it:Mets tied Cards 3-3Mets over Giants 4-3Cards over Giants 4-3So it would appear that the Mets would get to choose whether they want to be team A, B or C. I can't imagine why anyone would choose to be B but you could make a pretty good argument that team C would be the best spot. If you choose A, you have two chances to win one game so that would likely be the choice but if you choose C you get an extra day of rest to play a team that just lost and - presumably - used their best pitchers in the first game. BigRedBuster
Cubs are not involved in this three way. I'm assuming you meant to type "Cards". I would agree with your last paragraph. If you choose C, theoretically, you get to play a team that is in the worst situation. 1 Quote Link to comment
Mavric
Yeah, don't know where I got off on the Cubs. I corrected the above post. Thanks. It looks like the Mets and Cards would go to intraleague records to see who gets the first pick. I think the Cards would win that. Quote Link to comment
PaulCrewe
Jose Fernandez taken away from the world in a boating accident early this morning. The kid, yes kid @ 24, was so good and had such a future. Thoughts and prayers to his family and Marlin organization. Quote Link to comment
Danny Bateman
Just awful, awful stuff. It feels dirty to analyze a player's talent when something like this happens, but he truly was a transcendent talent. A generational type of pitcher. We lost a great player and a great person today. Quote Link to comment
Danny Bateman
Papi is another one of my favorite players. It's heartwarming to see MLB players showing their support for Jose. Quote Link to comment
