Red Five
Once again this is another example of why coaches must play the second and third string guys in games. You can't run a college football program like an NFL team with half a dozen back ups for a dozen spots. You need at least 5 tackles and 5 guards and 3 centers ready to go each fall. A couple of those guys must be ready to swap positions in addition. You can lose three starters before the second game kicks off. You build a winning team, like any other structure or organization, from the ground up. The foundation is the O line and D line. Most agree with this. We are apparently about 4 scholarship linemen away from where we should be. We better get some more walk ons and build them up to contribute at least about 15 snaps a game. One guard goes down and there seems to be panic. Nonsense. We totally should have rotated Wilson in last year. Wait... 1 Quote Link to comment

Mavric
Has Utter been taking any reps at LG? Decker looked pretty good in the spring game and ready to step up at C if Wilson doesn't look ready at LG- IMO. They like Utter at C and don't want to move him. Quote Link to comment
Red Five
Sam's take after 2 weeks of practice: » Offensive line: I like the tackles — Nick Gates and David Knevel — a lot, and their relative excellence in practice may have reporters worrying more about the four-man pass rush than they should. Gates and Knevel look the part. Utter, at center, is there to direct the line. His snaps have been pretty good, generally. At guard, Tanner Farmer and ... Boe Wilson? It appears so. Wilson has been a pleasant surprise. He’s strong and he moves well for a young guy; he looks like Farmer, to some degree, although Farmer is bigger and more powerful in the run game. Jalin Barnett is a house of a guard who can drive a guy 5 yards back if he latches on right. Barnett is a work in progress as a pass blocker. The tackle situation is interesting. Christian Gaylord and Cole Conrad are two of the backups, and as long as Gates and Knevel stay healthy, you’ll see Matt Farniok redshirt. Farniok has “excellent” written all over him, though. You see why he got so many scholarship offers. He’s aggressive and he moves well. Michael Decker is the backup center — pencil him in to start for several years — while John Raridon and Bryan Brokop are headed for redshirts, but will be good scout-team guys. Watch for Zach Hannon and walk-on Sam Hahn at backup spots in the interior, and Corey Whitaker, once he returns from arthroscopic knee surgery, may get a good look at guard. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/mckewon-husker-defense-shows-progress-offense-looks-about-same/article_2989c575-3b95-56d7-8cb5-597bc1424cff.html 1 Quote Link to comment

They rotated entire units out in games that we had controlled (which was most of them back then). Don't believe me? http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/life-in-the-red/tenopir-says-cavanaugh-s-o-line-rotating-approach-same-as/article_ec725a06-1e26-11e6-bbab-fb792ec9d57b.html Read that then...from Tenopir himself. I'm okay with keeping the top unit in as long as they are doing well, and we don't have the game wrapped up. PT in a real game can never be simulated on the practice field. Quote Link to comment
GBRFAN
I'll take our offense over theirs any day of the week... Seems like their defense has been what has kept them towards the top. Quote Link to comment

Michigan St. has beat us twice in total offense since we joined and that was in 2011 and 2014, other then that, it hasn't been close. Total Offense Rank: YR NU MSU 2015 34 73 2014 33 11 2013 59 81 2012 26 97 2011 66 56 3 Quote Link to comment
