This is really confusing - why would any Bush but esp Jeb come to Trump's defense?

Former Republican Florida Gov. Jeb Bush came to the defense of former President Trump in a Wall Street Journal op-ed slamming the recent New York civil fraud court case that ordered the 45th president to pay a $354.8 million fine plus interest.

"Every American has a right to be critical of Mr. Trump’s politics—one of us ran against him in 2016," reads Bush’s op-ed, titled, "Elon Musk and Donald Trump Cases Imperil the Rule of Law."

…But equality before the law is precious, and these rulings represent a crisis not only for the soundness of our courts, but for the business environment that has allowed the U.S. to prosper," the opinion piece continued. "If these rulings stand, the damage could cascade through the economy, creating fear of arbitrary enforcement against entrepreneurs who seek public office or raise their voices as citizens in a way that politicians dislike."

and then I read this from 2018.  George is Jeb's son:     Trump seems to have something on about everyone it appears:

It's the Michigan primary today (@ZRod). Rep Tlaib is running a counter campaign against Biden. Voters can vote undecided. It'll be interesting to see how wide spread those undecided votes are throughout the state. I doubt it'll make much difference nationally in Nov, blue no matter who.

Guess who Michigan Dems nominated for president in 1972:

Spoiler

George Wallace, early player of the circle game! Wallace was a close 3rd to McGovern and Humphrey.

Living in Oakland county my primary vote doesn't mean much. Everyone voted Biden last time, except me. :)

Haley speaking the truth except for the last sentence below.  I have more concern with Trump than Biden.

Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley slammed former President Trump in a Wall Street Journal interview published Tuesday, warning that if he clinches the nomination, the GOP could lose in November.

Why it matters: Haley has repeatedly cited Trump's general election vulnerabilities as a reason for staying in the race despite having no clear path to win the Republican nomination.

  • "This may be his survival mode to pay his legal fees and get out of some sort of legal peril, but this is like suicide for our country," she said of the former president, who faces 91 criminal counts across four cases.
  • "We've got to realize that if we don't have someone who can win a general election, all we are doing is caving to the socialist left."

The big picture: Trump has cruised to victory in every early primary contest, including most recently in Haley's home state of South Carolina, but she has vowed to stay in the race, arguing that voters deserve a choice.

  • "I'm doing what I believe 70% of Americans want me to do," she said, referring to polling that shows that a majority of Americans want an alternative to a Trump-Biden rematch in November.

The other side: "Republican voters have delivered resounding wins for President Trump in every single primary contest and this race is over," Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement.

  • "Our focus is now on Joe Biden and the general election."

Between the lines: Haley, who earlier in her campaign committed to backing her party's eventual nominee, ducked re-affirming that commitment during the Journal interview.

  • "What I will tell you is that I have serious concerns about Donald Trump," she said. "I have more serious concerns about Joe Biden."

Maybe Nikki is going to stay in the race and in the end just run as some sort of "Independent Republican" taking votes away from Trump and making this a$$ kicking an even bigger a$$ kicking?

I wonder if the people who would vote for her as an independent would have voted for Biden if she wasn’t in the GE?  Thus in some ways helping the con man. Maybe she runs on the No Labels ticket :dunno

It’s Biden’s fault Hamas raped and murdered and kidnapped a bunch of people in Israel so I’m voting for Trump.

It’s funny that todays GoP voter can recognize people like Wallace from 50 years ago but not see it today.

Crazy crazy, 100,000 Undecided Dem votes yesterday. Biden pulled 700,000. That's 1 in 8. The 'Abandon Biden' voters aren't switching, they're staying home.

in 2020 Biden got 2.8M votes and beat Trump by 150,000. Had 1 in 8 stayed home, Trump would have won by 500,000. If 1 in 18 had stayed home it would have been a dead heat.

Michgan Dems in the House have for years covered and supported Rep Rashida Tlaib. My Rep, Debbie Dingell went to the House floor and proclaimed antisemitic tropes have different meanings to different people when Tlaib used "From the river to the sea" in her tweets. 2 weeks ago Tlaib was the only one not to vote to commend Hamas rapes. The Dems have extended her every grace and now she stands to defeat Biden.

So Biden and Gov Gretchen Whitmer have their work cut out for them. The State Repubs are very weak so that makes the job easier.

Potential 1992 all over again but with the Dems losing out due to a strong 3rd party candidate.  Ross Periot sunk GHWB chances in 92 - could we see RFKjr do the same with Bush?   I wonder what Haley will do.  Is there a chance she is staying in the race by becoming an independent candidate.  In spite of a huge wave against her in the GOP primaries, she is sticking it out for some reason.  She can't be that delusional to think she can overcome the cult in today's GOP.   I think she wants to keep her name in front of the public in case a 3rd party situation opens up (No Labels) or perhaps trump is unable to continue his campaign because of conviction of one or more felonies and ends up in jail (which seems like a long shot based on current environment).  Unfortunately, the most serious of the court cases, J6 and Documents cases) are down the road too far to affect the GOP convention.  I don't know if there will be a conviction prior to the convention.

And today you don't really need to "spend" as much IF you know how to get to your audience.

I think Haley stays in.

RFK I have no idea.  I never see him at all on anything but it sure seems like he is staying in.
