A QB I thought of a few times while reading this is Jay Cutler.

 

The guy has the physical talent to be a good QB. But, everything else in the article such as toughness, taking blame for failures, preparedness....etc. prevents him from being that good leader you need in your QB.

The rest of that quote made me think of Joe Ganz, that and all of the toughness talk.

 

Some of the guys who played with a chip on their shoulder, some of the time, those are the guys who are the most successful because they put in the extra work.

A local kid I know played a season with the Bears. Nicest kid in the world, but he didn't have anything good to say about Cutler. Notorious prick, it seems.

Yes, that was an excellent team - and the fumble against Texas was reminiscent of the one in 1999 - fumbling going across the Texas goal line. That one for probably kept us from winning the NC that year - we would have beat FSU or VT. Instead we soundly defeated the previous national champ - Tenn in the Fiesta Bowl and ended the year 3rd. Z Taylor still remains one of my favorite QBs at NU. He made the BC years bearable for 2 years

I would love to have him come back to Nebraska and coach someday. Get a few more years under his belt and I think he could be a great coach to have around here. Qbs, o coordinator after a while. He's got a lot of great coaching qualities and I'm sure is being groomed heavily by Mike Sherman his father in law

To be fair I don't think he really needs more years for either of those positions, since he's already been coaching them in the NFL.

Zac is up there at the top of my favorite Huskers of all time. The kid had heart and toughness and never gave up so he'd know what it takes.

Zac Taylor was a good QB for us. But, by chance, I came across a Bleacher Report guy(I know, Bleacher Report, bleh) who was ranking NU's Top 10 all time QBs and put ZT @ ~#4, ahead of guys like Humm and Ferragamo and Steve Taylor. Yikes! I am not even sure if I would've put ZT in the top 10!

I love Zac but 4th is a bit steep when you can go all the way back to Devaney days and think about all the QBs that played here. I think it's a combination of two things, recent memory, and style of play. He was the first QB in recent memory to set a bunch of passing records and since he played in this millennium he sprang to mind quickly.
