  1. Remember this name! Ryan Bellinghausen
  2. I believe the kid is not truthful and does not intend to be. When you lose your trust, it is very difficult to get it back. He has dug himself a very dark deep hole. ND is complicit in his lies.
  3. Come back with this thread next year. Then, we can make some comparisons on their rookie year! 2012 NFL stats!
  4. We used to call the "fringe" guys on the team "river rats." They were the athletes who had some discipline problems and academic issues. However, I firmly believe that those guys were the hardest workers in practice because that is where they got their "props" and built their self esteem. By the time they were seniors, they had blossomed into some very solid individuals. They may not have been Academic All Americans, but they learned how to be successful in life because of what they learned on the field. Being highly academic and athletic is excellent, but don't put all your eggs in that basket.
  5. I am confident that what ever Dr. Tom does is done with a lot of thought and process. He is a very level headed man and I would trust him in just about any situation! You will never convince me that he and Pelini have not had some heart to heart talks about the FB program.
  6. Hang on to the ball and there is no controversy!
  7. Hopefully, JP will find something next year.
  8. Will Coaching ability be the key difference in bowl game? Yes, along with the quality of athletes on the field. It will be a glaring difference! We do not appear to have either to compete at a high level. Hope I am wrong, but I don't think I am.
  9. 24/7 here! Just a little disappointed at the moment.
  10. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you Husker Fans----------And, to those of you who are not Husker Fans! Peace and Blessings to all of you and your families. Play safe!
  11. I might infer from your summary then that from a scheme perspective (or maybe more accurately a game planning perspective), we have some issues. Because we got absolutely rocked on so many series by their blitzes in the CCG. Also on a completely different note, I've found myself comparing our offense with Oregon's some this season. Not because they're "better," but just because their version of the zone read is also very effective. It seems like not only is their offensive line really stout, they also run their shotgun read more downhill than we do. Ours generally develops more laterally. My guess is that this is something Beck has done in response to a previously not-so-stout offensive line. Where to even begin with this post. This is an internet forum. It's the kind of discussions that take place on an internet forum. Your diatribe could be applied to probably 95% of the threads on this site. And..................................? It is the coaches responsibility to make sure the defense is what it is supposed to be! "And you guys thought I could not coach against the run?" What the hell is that? The Defense did not show up at the Championship game. What make yous think it will be present when we go to Florida? Some slight of hand magic?
  12. Evaluation of coaches is the job of the head coach. Making changes is the job of the head coach. The head coach is responsible. The head coach makes the decisions. Any redundancy here? Now, do you see the problem?
  13. 3. They don't have retirement pensions Say what?
  14. The only way Pelini will get the job done is if he goes outside his normal reach and hire some quality coaches. The flip side of that is the new AD shelling out the coins to get them here. Without doing this, Pelini is short lived as a Husker head coach. As for your spelling, when the red dotted line shows up under the word, that means is typed incorrectly. When you see the little red dotted line, place your cursor on the word, right click on your mouse and you see a list of correctly spelled words similar to your word. Once that happens, simply left click on the word you were trying to spell. Not all that hard.
  15. I am sure our kids will want to redeem themselves, especially the defensive side. Problem is that I seriously like their effort but they are not really talented and not coached very well, especially the defensive line and backers. I hope it is a good and exciting game instead of a 70- something blow out. As to your remark, "Talk to me, you bucktoothed corn cobs," ..................................................... Best pick up line in a Georgia bar? "Nice Tooth!"
  16. I would place him 3rd - I think he will surpass Crouch in the minds of most Husker fans. However, Tommy and Scott had that leadership quality that Taylor has yet to develop. Scott was more vocal in that way and I think Tommy did it with his actions (and getting into the face of those who messed up) - perhaps not as personable as Scott by what I hear. We did see shadows of Tommy and Scott in Taylor's efforts to bring us back from behind in those 4 games. He was Crouch like (Crouch's run vs Mo) in how he broke that 76 yard run against Wisky. If Taylor can win a CCG and help us to a top 5 or so finish next year - I think he deserves to be mentioned in the top 3 or 4 (Turner Gill will always be regarded in that top tier as well). He will have the stats to be on the top, but the leadership qualities and a trophy would cement him as one of the all time greats at NU. I don't disagree! However, unless he has the supporting cast around him, he will not have the championships, top rankings and trophies he deserves. One player cannot do it by himself. Look at the offensive line that the other QBs I mentioned had. What do you think Martinez's numbers would be if he had the real pipeline in front of him?
  17. Did you watch them last season? We have already improved from last season. When watching Miles you actually see him coaching and teaching players. Gallegos has out of nowhere found confidence in his shot. Miles has signed 3 players that are top 30 at their respected positions. We have 2 BCS transfers eligible next season and a JUCO AA PG redshirting. You will be impressed with Miles guaranteed I have watched Husker basketball ever since 1969. When NU built the Devaney Sports Center, it was supposed to put us in the top echelon of our conference and help us be competitive . Well, how did that work out? A few notable wins here and there but nothing of major importance. However if you read my statement, "Now, the question remains, will the new head coach be able to recruit, teach basketball and get this program to improve? He has a monumental job ahead of him," no where did I say we didn't improve. Improvement is relative only to the place from where you start. So, showing improvement in this team does not mean we will win a lot of games this year. I hope the man can recruit, because in the day and age that is the bottom line. One thing I did notice about last night, was our ineptness on defense. We are not fast, not quick, and not too smart on making defensive switches, a lethal combination as is evidenced by the final score. The NU players did not stay with their assigned man and got burnt by numerous wide open shots drained by the Jays. I support all NU sports. However, I am not one to get all excited and jump on the bandwagon about improvement when you start as far back as we are. Improvement to me means winning games consistently, winning some notable big games, and winning (or at least contending/competing for) championships! Then, and only then, can you really measure improvement.
  18. I watched the game on my new 27 inch iMac, ESPN3 live. My analysis is as follows: 1. NU does not have any talent! 2. Their lack of foot speed and quickness is glaring. 3. They lack defensive savvy. 4. They do not have a scoring threat (inside or outside) and cannot score. 5. They do not possess poise in difficult situations. 6. They did a surprising job of rebounding, despite not being very physical. 7. The lack of post play on offense is extreme. 8. Because of the lack of talent, they have very few offensive sets and options. 9. Revert to observation number 1. 10. Revert to observation number 1 and 9. Now, the question remains, will the new head coach be able to recruit, teach basketball and get this program to improve. He has a monumental job ahead of him.
  19. Taylor Martinez gets an unnecessary bad rap in most circles. His style of play is not the usual polish of college QBs who come from the highly touted high school programs. However, he is an extremely gifted athlete who has overcome adversity and accomplished great deeds at the University of Nebraska. I shutter to think what his numbers would be if he had the offensive lines of the early to mid 1990's. Personally, I think he would have been equal to or better than Frazier, Frost and Crouch. The numbers won't lie. By the time he graduates, baring injury, he will have set the bar unreasonably high for future QBs who come to play football at NU. He has done his part on the team, the rest of the team needs to step up and do their part.
  20. If you don't have quality coaches and quality players, tradition does not take you very far. Hanging 50-60-70 points on a defense does not measure up to the standards of tradition previously exhibited by a historic Blackshirt Defense. I don't know how sophisticated your technology is with regards to your score board, but if I were UG officials, I would have your maintenance crew and the company who built the scoreboard check it out to make sure it could register three digits in the scoring column.
  21. It is what it is! The problem is recruiting and player development. The problem is consistency in recruiting and player development. Every aspect of the program needs upgrades, from the weight program to the discipline on the team. And, all of that comes under the auspices of the head coach. He is the bottom line. Hiring friends and acquaintances for your coaching staff is a really bad idea. How in the hell does a guy, Papuchis, go from being an intern at LSU in 2004 and then the head defensive coordinator in 2012? That amounts to about eight years, most of it serving as a special teams coordinator and assistant defensive line coach. Then bam, you are are the head defensive coordinator at a major university known for excellence in defense! Doesn't Pelini have enough sense to avert the Bill Callahan syndrome and hire someone who can actually coach defense. And, as for Pelini handling the defense, so far he has not shown that he can handle both the head coaching position and the defensive duties on the team. A quality head coach hires quality assistants and then manages the program through them. We have very weak assistant coaches.
  22. The thing that stands out to me on that list are the Solich years. I was not a big fan of Frank, but he literally got screwed. He did not have a chance to develop his program. He tried to make some changes and it still was not good enough. The guy basically gave is life to Nebraska and then he got crapped on. However, to answer the question, a nine win season does not meet the smell test if you get your rear end waxed for each of your losses. An embarrassment like the Ohio St. game, and then even worse, the Championship game says volumes about the content of the program. Seriously, nine wins does not mean a thing unless your are competitive each game.
