  1. Many universities are trying to front load semesters and send everyone home before Thanksgiving in an attempt to avoid the anticipated second wave sometime in the late fall. I would think that seriously cuts against any sort late start in November.
  2. ICE's ruling on deporting foreign students at any college that takes classes online will put even more financial pressure on colleges to keep students on campus or at least adopt hybrid online/in-person plans. https://www.cnet.com/health/international-students-cant-stay-in-us-if-their-colleges-go-online-only-ice-says/ https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53320336
  3. "Speaking during an interview on an NCAA Twitter channel, [Pac-12 Conference commissioner Larry] Scott ... predicted that decisions about having fall sports will be driven less by sport-based concerns, such as transmission through games’ physical contact, and more by campus- and community-level situations such as the recent outbreaks that have occurred in the South and West." https://www.statesman.com/sports/20200704/pac-12-commissioner-larry-scott-says-recent-coronavirus-outbreaks-bring-added-challenges-for-fall-college-sports
  4. I work at a university in the SEC. I haven't seen capacity breakdowns for stadiums or sporting arenas (and won't any time soon), but for classrooms the expected social-distancing capacity cap is right about 20% normal capacity.
  5. It was Beck who didn't recruit him. Riley tried but Burrow was already committed to tOSU. By the time Burrow wanted to transfer, Riley was gone and Frost wanted to stick with AM: OMWH 01/18/2015: https://www.omaha.com/recruiting-qb-joe-burrow-has-plenty-of-husker-ties-but/article_eb6d550c-9f47-11e4-a022-97486fe319e2.html
  6. 2019 Tuscaloosa isn't all that different from early to mid-90's Lincoln, and 2019 UA has a significantly larger student enrollment than 2019 UNL. Students may not stay in Tuscaloosa after they graduate, but getting them to come isn't a problem. As for recruiting proximity, New Orleans, Nashville, and Atlanta are all within a 4 hour drive from Tuscaloosa.
  7. I've had several uneventful and semi-pleasant road trips through Iowa on my way to Illinois and Minnesota.
  8. In December 2017 a bunch of sources picked up this 538 story that said, based on Elo ratings, the 17-18 Crimson Tide edged out the '95 Huskers by 0.3 as the best college team ever: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/we-rate-alabama-the-strongest-team-in-college-football-history/ Of course, Alabama went on to lose the national championship that year to Clemson. The same thing appears to be happening this year, both as to the Alabama hype and the collapse in the national championship. I never saw a revision of that 2017 story but this year 538 is rating the 3 best college teams since 2000 as the 18-19 Crimison Tide, the 17-18 Crimson Tide, and the 18-19 Clemson Tigers, in that order: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-best-and-worst-teams-of-2018-in-almost-any-sport/ If the '95 Huskers were that close the 17-18 Crimson Tide and both that Tide team and this year's lose the Championship, then I guess the argument become '95 Huskers vs 18-19 Clemson... (unfortunately, 538 used two different Elo numbers in those stories, so you can't compare Nebraska vs Clemson directly).
  9. I'd be fine with this on the condition that OU be reinstated as our Black Friday Rival game. I hate Texas as much as the next Husker but UT was conference cancer in the XII because no one else besides NU would push back on anything Texas wanted - and only OU really had the necessary strength anyway. At a minimum, both MI and tOSU would have the clout and ego to force actual negotiation and consensus decisions, and I don't see Wiscy, Penn, or some of the other original B1G schools being pushovers either. It'd be nice to have an I-35 corridor, MPLS to Austin thing going if KU were in the mix too.
  10. Do you have a smart phone? There are apps you can install that can recognize songs from just a few seconds. Of you course you have to stand there ready to hit "record" like you're making a mix tape off the radio.....
  11. ^^ This is basically how Top Golf works ... but it's more "horse shoes and hand grenades" accurate rather than "4th and inches" accurate.
  12. I'm curious what role the public announcement played. The coaches basically said it was a tie so they went with the better runner/athlete (I'm paraphrasing), which surprised me. Maybe it was the truth and maybe it was something they thought would make the news easier to take, but either way I thought it was a young coach mistake and bad sports psychology. The rationale they offered was literally the whole "you can't coach speed" cliche. No time in the gym or at practice or in the film room was going to make him the better runner and once he had time to think about it, I am not surprised he transferred out. Any real competitor would.
  13. Seeing Hot Takes like this so early in a season makes me wince, especially when you know the national sports narrative at the will change at the drop of a hat. "Texas is back, folks!" is only funny when it's about Texas.
  14. 1. TG was arranging practices for and with other players when there was NO head coach. The prior staff said he was always working and studying film. The current staff said he was always working and studying film. All the comments about "hearing" this and that negative thing about him now is junior high-level, sour-grapes BS and is an embarrassment to this fan base. 2. If you believe that TG is some combination of an entitled, lazy, spoiled, skinny, noodle arm and you don't care if the door hits him on the way out, then the fact that he was in a race down to the wire with a player seemingly tailor-made for Frost's offense means your expectations for this season are way too high. I don't care what they are, they are too high. 3. AM is the Huskers QB. Kickoff is Saturday. God speed & good health to AM and GBR.
  15. I am actually afraid of something like this. Frost and co. had nothing but positive things to say about his work ethic and ability and in the right system I think he'll be a dangerous.
  16. People need to cut the kid some slack. He already burned his red shirt here last year and he loses another year if he waits to transfer. If it's true that the coaches viewed the competition as ending effectively in a tie with the tie breaker being Martinez's edge in the run game over Gebbia's edge in passing, he'd be a fool to stay. Good luck and happy trails to Gebbia.
