Omaha has a ton of unique sit-down restaurants and plenty of cuisine offerings that aren't burgers, chicken or pizza. We have sushi, cajun food, Indian food, bistros, Vietnamese restaurants, Ethiopian food... you just need to get out and explore. Most of these places also have Google listings.

And we have some true diamonds in the food truck scene, as well. I can probably give you 10 places to try off the top of my head that fit descriptions of things you're looking for.

It's gotta be at least 10-12 years or so I would think?

I just saw some mentions of him popping up on Twitter so I assume he must've said something on air this morning. With how busy he is, I'm kind of surprised it took him this long, what with coaching HS football, his kids being teens, all the community stuff he gets up to, etc. Being up and at a radio program before the sun cracked every day for the last decade was probably exhausting at times.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I was never a huge fan of DB as a radio personality. I enjoy him as a person, but he produced a lot of long-winded monologues and was really repetitive. I could always tell that Gary or whomever his co-host was would struggle to keep DB on topic and on schedule. I also didn't particularly like how coy he could be at times about stuff he claimed to know was happening in the program but he didn't want to share details. Listeners don't like to regularly be told 'I know something you don't know' and then not find out what that thing is; at least, I never liked that.

  3. Vala's Pumpkin Patch is quickly turning into the Disney of the Midwest.

Every year since 2016, my work has offered discounted tickets. They used to be $10 each. I just got an email today about the tickets. They're now discounted to $17.99/ticket for a weekday (full price is $19.99) and $34.99/ticket for the weekend (full price is $39.99).

So, for the amount of tickets I was going to buy, I can either save $18 for the weekday or $45 for the weekend. Obviously that's better than full price, but not by much when you consider how much things on the inside cost now, too. Just wild what that place has turned in to. I'm all for capitalism but... geesh.

They have their own train ride, haunted houses, tons of attractions and shows, rentable camp sites/fire pits, etc. It also holds a lot of sentimental value to me because I started going in the early 90s as a kid, but it also used to cost only a couple bucks to get in. Now they just keep expanding every year and finding new reasons to slap another $5 onto admission.

That's also why people like Stephen A. Smith are some of the highest paid sports personalities in the business. He drives clicks and views and makes them money. It's a vicious circle my dudes.

@JJ Husker yeah that seems outlandish but the first thought that popped into my head was same as yours that they must have a larger than usual property with a lot of trees or something. I have a 1/2 acre and lawn service is $40/week right now.

Lawn/tree care can be quite lucrative if you find the people willing to pay. good news about our pine tree is it’s in the front yard. I’ve heard backyard trees are where they really get ya because of the challenge of getting and using the equipment back there.

Super late to this party, probably too late, but figured I'd throw in my two cents.

We had a huge limb fall of a tree last year and get stuck about 25-30 feet in the air. We used a company my neighbors had previously used. It cost $550 for them to come remove the limb and then they also trimmed the entire tree up to a height of 15 feet. Another quote we had had for the same thing was north of $1500 IIRC. So tree trimming (like a lot of services) can be all over the place.

Tree removal is usually a lot more expensive. We're probably going to need to have that done soon as our front yard's pine tree is dead (killed by invasive species). I'm expecting that to be at least a couple thousand.

I (think) I have a pretty big one: steak. I really did not like actual steaks growing up... ribeyes, T-bones, the like. @BigRedBuster I 100% agree. The same people who hated it this year will probably love next year’s, and vice versa. It’s not a big deal at all and I don’t think the NFL got it more right than wrong compared to any other year. It’s good that they rotate genres/generations.

I loved the half time show and I felt like it appealed to a wide range of people even if that kind of music isn't someone's "thing," but there was a lot of reaction from people I saw that disappointed me... things I'll probably post about in P&R at some point.

As for the show itself, I feel like people suffer from memory loss when it comes to analyzing these things. The NFL has done a pretty good job of balancing generations and genres IMO. In the last few years we've had The Weeknd, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars... all performers that I think appeal to a younger crowd. Then you've got Bruce Springsteen and The Who whom played approximately a decade ago. And then a bunch of other artists that I think split the difference. Prince was probably the best half time show I've ever seen, and although I respect Prince a ton, he's not exactly an artist I'll throw on Spotify ever.

People just need to chill out. The NFL is a money making business so, although I'm sure they want to appeal to a wide range of audiences, they also want to provide artists that'll draw massive attention and interest. Mission accomplished yesterday.

NFL is like a 'in the background' mood on Sundays. With the Huskers as they've been, it's really only been F1, and that season is over now for a few months. I'll probably only cancel if this continues for weeks.

  15. If you could eliminate any penalty in football, what would you choose and why?

I'd choose false starts (and the defensive counterpart offsides). You could still blow the play dead, but don't waste time explaining the call or allowing the teams to re-huddle and call in new plays. Just force them to line up and get after it.

I 100% advocate eliminating the backwards slide rule. In lieu of that not happening though then yes I think you just spot the ball wherever the qb initiated the slide since that’s where it gets spotted currently.

Well that's why I said don't make it a penalty. Just make it like a dead ball play or something... like the runner's knee hitting the ground. Ref sees a QB go to slide, QB changes mind, ref blows whistle and the ball gets placed where the QB started the slide.

Since sliding and becoming a defenseless player is not going to go away it doesn't make any sense to enable people to exploit it.

I'm not advocating for it to be a penalty but it should blow the play dead if a QB does that... like a knee hitting the ground. If we're going to say that defenders can't tackle a QB that's sliding, then we certainly can't allow said QB to exploit the rule.

@JJ Husker I think that's a bit irrelevant to his point as he wasn't explicitly outlining any benefit or detriment for Nebraska.

Obviously, the fewer the obstacles to the B1G championship the better if you're in the West, but from an objective perspective regarding the balance of the league, one division is structurally and fundamentally better equipped to succeed.

Having the weaker division doesn't mean much for success either. Same thing happened in the Big 12. Whomever in the north patty caked their way through that division would just lose to whatever elite team made it through the southern gauntlet. I don't really see that changing to often with the likes of tOSU, MU and PSU all in one division, regardless of how bad or good Nebraska is.

Which was a measurable (and now evidence-based) concern back before the division realignment.

The B1G put the clear majority of talent and resource rich football programs on one side of the conference and put more have-nots in the West. Although Nebraska has been pretty bad for the last 6-7 years, they (on paper) should be the best program in the west division... and yet if they were in the east they (on paper) should be the fourth best team in the mix with MSU.

That's a huge problem that I don't ever see changing unless the divisions are realigned.
