I'm pretty sure there was talk about a potential 7 way tie in either the BIG West or ACC Coastal (I forget which) some previous season. This doesn't seem like the first time I've heard of a 7 way tie possibility.

Yeah, it's fun to think about, but it's not going to happen.

I bet you're fun at parties...

If Huskers will win out and Illinois beat Iowa for 11/18 game then Huskers awarding first place in West race !!!

How about Gophers? Rodents beat Ohio State this weekend? .... unlikely

Technically speaking, if:

Nebraska beats Iowa and Wisconsin

Minnesota beats tOSU and Wisconsin

Illinois beats Iowa

Northwestern beats Illinois

Purdue beats Northwestern

Then the division would be:

Minnesota 5-4 (wins tiebreaker 1 with head to head wins against NU and Iowa)

Nebraska 5-4 (wins head to head against Iowa)

Iowa 5-4

Northwestern 4-5

Illinois 4-5

Wisconsin 3-6

Purdue 3-6 or 4-5 with Indiana game

This set of circumstances is so slim that ESPN gives this scenario a 0.0% chance of happening.

FPI Chance to win the West after week 10:

Iowa 71.4%

Wisconsin 13.6%

Nebraska 8.7%

Minnesota 5.0%

Illinois 1.2%

Northwestern 0.1%

Purdue 0.0%

Iowa controls their own destiny.  Win out vs Rutgers, Illinois, and Nebraska and they go the Indy.

Iowa owns tiebreaker over Wisconsin.

Minnesota owns tiebreaker over Iowa and Nebraska.

FPI Chance to win the West after week 11:

Iowa 93.4%

Nebraska 2.8%

Wisconsin 2.2%

Illinois 1.6%

Minnesota 0.0%

Northwestern 0.0%

Purdue 0.0%

Simplest scenarios:

Iowa - beat either Illinois or Nebraska and they win the West.

Nebraska - beat Wisconsin and Iowa, and Iowa loses to Illinois and Nebraska, and Minnesota loses to either OSU or Wisconsin

Nebraska's only chance is:

Beat Wisconsin and Iowa

Iowa loses to Illinois and Nebraska

Minnesota loses to either OSU or Wisconsin

This is definitely still unlikely, but Illinois's backup QB coming in and throwing for 500 last week has me at least keeping an eye on Illinois/Iowa this weekend. Minnesota will lose to OSU, so it's really down to us winning out and Iowa losing out. Both teams have been doing the opposite against all odds though.

No matter how unlikely, all but Purdue can still win the division with two weeks left.

I'll one up that. (There could be some errors here, so need a double check from someone.)

Nebraska beats Wisconsin and Iowa

Minnesota beats OSU and Wisconsin

Northwestern beats Purdue and Illinois

Illinois beats Iowa

Iowa 5-4

Minnesota 5-4

Nebraska 5-4

Northwestern 5-4

Iowa 1-2 vs all

Minnesota 2-1 vs all

Nebraska 2-1 vs all

Northwestern 1-2 vs all

I think the next tiebreaker would be in-division winning %

Iowa 3-3

Minnesota 3-3

Nebraska 5-1

Northwestern 4-2

Nebraska 2023 B1G West Champs!!!!

Then Minnesota would go based on beating Nebraska.

I believe that once you eliminate Northwestern and Iowa with tiebreakers in the multiteam tie, Minnesota gets the division with the head-to-head tiebreakers.

  1. If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 8 will be followed until a determination is made.  If only two teams remain tied after any step (or sub-step), the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative. If three or more teams remain tied after any step, move to next step in tiebreaker with remaining tied teams.
