DeathCultArmaggedon
Player: Travis Hawkins Hometown: Gaithersburg, MD (Quince Orchard HS, same as recent NU commitment Jason Ankrah) Position: CB Height: 5'10" Weight: 181 lbs. 40 time: 4.42 Visit Date: TBD Scholarships offered: Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, UCF, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia Favorites: Soft commitment to Maryland, but talking with Nebraska, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee Rankings/Stars: Rivals: #21 CB Scout: #6 CB ESPN Grade: 80 #12 CB Assessing the talent: "Hawkins blends great athleticism and instincts in the secondary and consistently seems to be around the ball making plays. Lacks ideal height but is a chiseled athlete with a wide frame to pack on additional lean bulk to complement his aggressive style of play. A bit high and rigid in his pedal resulting in only adequate transitional quickness in an out. Does read the quarterback soundly, anticipate the throw well and generates great speed quickly breaking and jumping underneath routes. Looks for a high-impact hit if he can't separate the ball from the receiver. Tracks the deep throw well and does a good job high-pointing the jump ball flashing his good timing and leaping skills. Good break over deep out routes. Covers a lot of ground quickly with little wasted motion on run support. Chases down ball carriers with a relentless motor and good aggressiveness. Strong tackler and his good range, ball skills and toughness could make strong safety a good possibility with continued physical development. Fights through the stalk block with good upper-body strength or slips it with quickness. Ability to set the edge. Does not shy away from contact and actually looks to initiate it. However, he lacks great hips and recovery speed when projecting as a man-to-man cornerback prospect. Strength to step up and play press but lacks good pedal fluidity and footwork. Height is a concern versus today's taller college receivers and could hinder ability at corner or free safety. A threat with the ball in his hands on offense. Displays loose hips and good stop-start skill eluding defenders in space. Versatile, aggressive athlete. Great prospect." - from ESPN Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 5%. Is committed to Maryland, but has reopened his recruiting and is talking to Nebraska. Is teammates with recent commit Jason Ankrah. Quote Link to comment
The Maudfather
If we get him that would be huge! Quote Link to comment
illnino
I know we must be pretty close to our limit this year, but I would think the staff would make room for him. He has an impressive list of schools after him Quote Link to comment
HSKRNOKC
They would. Some folks have said Bird wont qualify but who knows..?? Quote Link to comment

Blackshirtsguru
Since his Ankrah committed here, his HS team mate Hawkins (who is committed to MD) is now speaking to the Huskers. This would be a great pick up if we could get him. Quote Link to comment
robsker
They would. Some folks have said Byrd wont qualify but who knows..?? Byrd probably will not. And Dijon Washington is doubtful to don the N. So... two of our DB's are quire iffy. There is room for Hawkins --- who is far more highly regarded than any recruit we currently have at DB anyway. Plenty of room! Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
Get him here somehow, this kid would be a huge pick-up for the Huskers. Quote Link to comment
HANC
Get this kid !!!!!! Plenty of guys are probably not going to qualify, we surely have room for a good prospect at CB. C'mon Ankrah, help us out here. Quote Link to comment

HSKRNOKC
Im wondering what kind of time window we have if any..?? Quote Link to comment
BigWillie
he is enrolling early...so we better get on him quick... Isnt there a dead period with recruiting? Dead period basically means no face to face contact. Besides that it is open game really. But Hawkins is a pipe dream basically. He is an EE, so we would need to get him to visit almost immediately after the dead period, then enroll. Quote Link to comment
