Wisconsin game

So..... why are the students not being blamed for this movement? Back in 08 when the Athletic Dept gave students the black t-shirts to wear to the 1st game everyone was all over how it was just the students fault.... same thing, except this time the Athletic Dept isn't providing the shirts....

The last time I called the athletic department about having a _____out game (it was a Pink-Out in October a few years ago, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month), they said they had tried a b******* a while back and either the word didn't get out enough or people were just too tied to their Red clothes, but it didn't come off very well and they don't want to have a half-black, half-red stadium. They felt it looked bad. They did not blame it on the students. They said it was just that fans like to wear red.

In order to stand out amongst the Wisconsin Badgers fans and support the Huskers, Tom Osborne is asking fans that are traveling to the game to celebrate the Blackshirt tradition by wearing black to the game. Similar to Nebraska, the Wisconsin Badgers are fortunate to play to sold out crowds, mostly dressed in red. This makes our trip to Madison a unique and rare situation for our fans and one that calls for a solution. The Huskers love the Sea of Red tradition, but want to be visible to the coaches and players and a national television audience. Simply choose your favorite Husker black item from your closet or visit your favorite local Husker shop to purchase something new. We also have a good selection of Blackshirts gear at http://shop.huskers.com. Thank you for your support and remember to “Pack Your Black” for the Nebraska game at Camp Randall and make a difference as we open Big Ten Conference play.

They mentioned on unsportsmanlike conduct that a parent of one of the players said nebraska would come out in white jerseys as normal but with black pants with red stripes. Take it for what its worth. Just a rumor but kind of interesting.

the NUEquipment twitter just said Nebraska won't be wearing black

and then someone asked them who their source was

Hmmm....smells like a marketing ploy to me....

I dunno folks. Showing up in red in Wisconsin's stadium *is* kind of tacky.

If it were another school, then I wouldn't care so much (read: Indiana, Ohio State in upcoming years)--

--but this is Barry Alvarez we're talking about, who bleeds 'Husker red so much he emulated the Bobfather's plan in Wisconsin *and* was a strong proponent of getting our happy asses out of that ABC mid-day soap known as "As the Big XII Turns"...

If anything, not wearing red in Camp Randall is kind of a sign of respect. For one night, let's be the bigger team, let Wisconsin have their red, and say *thanks* in the process. It's not like we're being asked to wear Texas colors or a pointy uterus on our shirt.

Just sayin'.

I don't think it really has anything to do with the players. According to @swmckewonOWH and @Sean_Callahan, NU Alumni Association is asking Nebraska fans to wear black at Wisconsin and yes TO's on board with the idea.

Edit-Pretty much what DarkHorse posted!

What people fail to realize is that Wisconsin fans often wear black hoodies with Wisconsin in Red/White lettering. They also wear a navy color similar hoodie. It is not that Wisconsin just "wears red and white". They really have no unified dress code like you find at Nebraska. Wearing red would have been just as fine.

Also, we can argue who the "original" big red is until the cows come home, but only one school in the nation that I know of has the name "The Big Red" (albeit unofficially). This school is neither Nebraska or Wisconsin. Hell the local high-school there is even called the Little Red.
