How's come no one ever mentions Famous Daves in these food discussions?

I cant even pass within 50 miles of Lincoln or Omaha without stopping there.

Famous Daves is pretty national. Its not just like a Nebraska area thing. It doesnt get mentioned because its not a place thats "special" to Nebraska. Like when i go to another state/town i like to eat at places that are well known there and different from any place i can eat in Nebraska. Different food and different experiences.

If anyone is hitting up O st, there is a fairly new taco place called Fuzzy's on the corner of O & Centennial Mall you might want to check out. Its a national chain, but they have good tacos & have $2 for an 18 oz Shiner Bock through the end of the month. It might not be as packed since its newer & on the eastern end of the O st bar scene.

That, and there's better Barbeque in Texass (unfortunately) than what Famous Dave's can hope to muster on a good day, IMO.

Dont know if I got here in time but if your in Omaha Friday and want a good Italian resturant try Lo Sole Mio. They don't take reservations and the place is small for how busy it is but its second to none. Expect a 45 min wait at the very least. http://www.losolemio.com/ I'd hit it and then wander downtown into the old market and kind of go from bar to bar. Lots of great ones down there from Irish bars to micro breweries. I like the Up Stream. If you want to gamble (like the wife and I) go to the Horseshoe. Its the closest thing to a Vegas casino and it will be busy. There is a nice bar in there where the girls dress in tight leather. Speaking of girls if you want a strip bar, grab a case of canned beer and head south out of omaha to the The Playhouse. They'll have about 40 girls going and since you carry your own beer in you can keep the budget down. I make that trip at least once or twice a year for the entertainment.

Lincoln- I have a new appreciation for the Haymarket after the NU vs WU game 4 weeks ago. I had pretty much avoid that area for the last 4 years unless I wanted to eat at Lazlos. I got to Lincoln around noon and spent almost 5 hours down there bar hopping. Several of the ones right down under the overpass on the old loading docks had stiff drinks, good seating and big TVs. The tail gating has improved down there as many of the building have converted to apartment living. If you're looking for tailgates like you do at most colleges you won't get it in Lincoln. Most of it is small pockets of people tail gating near small parking lots. But all will invite you in if for a drink if you wear your school colors and aren't a dick. I ended up getting invited into a tail gate by a former husker for that game who was a friend of a friend and drank and ate for free for about 3 hours. Had so much fun I gave the guy cash as I left even though he didn't want it. If you want a bar band type of thing like my wife will find the old sidetracks band or go the the Embassy Suites back loading dock. That good music with a more commercial feel to the day.

Living in KC comments about Famous Dave's always shock me. My wife an I actually broke down and went there a few weeks ago because someone on this board mentioned it, and so I was telling her how all these Nebraska people rant and rave about Dave's. She'd never been, and we both went in with an open mind because we love BBQ, and while some of the sauces were unique...both decided we have about 40 BBQ joints that are better than Famous Dave's in KC. The brisket they served was similar to what you get at Cosco in the big packages. The pulled pork wasn't terriable. The ribs were. They didn't do too bad on the cornbread though - but then again it's pretty tough to screw up cornbread.

Only those who don't know BBQ. I went there one time and it was just like you said - like eating something pre-packaged crap at Costco.

There's better BBQ in Lincoln at Phat Jack's, a hole-in-the-wall joint at 10th & Cornhusker that has won a number of national awards. Heck, there's a guy who sets up a modified 50-gallon barrel at 27th & R that has better BBQ than Famous Dave's.

I am always surprised that the KC BBQ culture hasn't really gotten to Omaha at all. Seriously Omaha is a bad BBQ town, there are a few alright places, but nothing close to anything KC has to offer.
