MichiganDad3
Last year's defense was pathetically slow, and I was really looking forward to some speed on defense this year. Now I am reading about how much weight the LBs have gained. Our best linebacker in the past several years weighed 200 lbs and ran like deer. I am worried it might be a long year. ADS
Lavonte weight around 215-220 when he played here. Our MLB this year, Santos, is at 225 which is pretty light. While Anderson and Brown are both around 220-225. I'm expecting more speed from that group. Quote Link to comment
Decked
No and dont be. Anderson & Santos are 225 and Brown is around 215. Quote Link to comment
HuskerNationNick
You can gain weight and keep speed. I am sure these guys are only gaining 10-15 lbs, and its not going to be a huge difference if there is a speed loss. Courtney Love is huge for a freshman and he is fast! I think he will see a lot of him this season, especially if he understand the defense already. Not worried at all, as I feel this class has more talent. Quote Link to comment
NUance
I don't mind speedy LBs that are a bit lighter than we've had in the past. As long as we have a couple of beefy DTs up front who don't get pushed around. Quote Link to comment
onlyHskrfaninIL
S&C has really never been a problem. If the talent is there, and by all accounts it is, they will be fine. It's the mental part I worry about. Quote Link to comment
LumberJackSker
no need to be worried they cant be any slower than the starting 3 last year Quote Link to comment
iowahuskers
Speed kills. I want our linebackers to keep their speed, if that means being on the light side then I'm fine with that. Quote Link to comment
Hoosker
Speed > Power. End. Of. Story. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
Even playing gimpy, Anderson was noticeably faster than Compton/Fisher/Whaley. A few LBS probably won't do a lot of damage. Quote Link to comment
tschu
Even playing gimpy, Anderson was noticeably faster than Compton/Fisher/Whaley. A few LBS probably won't do a lot of damage. Just came here to post about him. He was looking really promising as a needed speed burst last year until he went down. With the newer guys coming up, I'm not nearly as worried about speed as I was last year. Quote Link to comment
Foppa
It's an 'instinct' position, really. Ask Lavonte David. I'm pretty sure Bo let him do what he wanted since he had a ball-hawking instinct. You do that, and you've won 95% of the battle. 1 Quote Link to comment

mnhusker
I hope we keep the speed. Last year it seemed like a lot was made of needing more size to compete in the BIG i think speed and a nose for the ball comes first. Quote Link to comment
Fuzzy
You need a balance of speed and power. I don't want to see a 215lb LB bouncing off a 245lb RB as much as watching a 235lb LB huffing and puffing trying to catch up to a 195lb RB. You got to have a mix and balance of what kind of LBs are on your team. In a perfect world, its good to have experienced speedy LBs and bulky hard hitting LBs rotating in and out based on what the offensive is throwing at you. Be careful what you wish for when wanting a speedy LB, Nothing ticks me off more than watching a fast LB overshoot the play because of his inexperience. Quote Link to comment
