Bye Weekend Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Watching the Georgia / LSU game. Those players are seemingly much better than our players. The Georgia D-Line is pretty impressive, saw a couple of plays where the d-line just blew up the entire line of scrimmage like we used to "back in the day". Feels like we've got a ways to go to get back to the elite level.

Thinking of the Big 10. Beginning to believe we have to cheer for every Big 10 team that is playing anyone from another league. As much as it sucks for now, we have to hope that Ohio St, Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin, etc, have great years. Kind of the old adage about "all boats rise on a rising tide". The more respected teams we have in conference, the more we become like the SEC in the eyes of the writers, etc.

Such a beautiful day, sad there is no game in Memorial today.

Can't wait for the next week to pass and we get to see some Husker football...what ever the status.

don't really think their players are better than ours, they just have a different swagger to them. It's almost tangible how different the attitude/environment of SEC games are from the rest of football.

ohhh I don't know...they look bigger, more physical and more athletic to me....you really think we have many players who would start there right now? its certainly a different atmosphere in the south...just on offense there are 2 nfl qb's and 4 nfl wide receivers...their line backers and lines are big and fast...I was thinking the opposite how far away we are...but then remember many bad years UGA and LSU had...and have a sliver of hope

I do think we have a lot of folks (e.g.Bell, Enunwa, Long, Sirles, VV, RG, Curry, ZAnderson, Cooper, Gerry, Banderas, SJB, McMullen, etc) on our team that can play in the SEC. I just think the attitude is different. SEC teams leave it all out there on the field. They are not tentative, and they play with reckless disregard for their own safety. I think we play with too much hesitation.

The whole, let's take what they give us mentality doesn't really help us play to our true potential on offense, and the patty-cake/contain we play on D doesn't help either.

If Bo does what's right and works on the teams overall swagger and attitude, you'll see what an SEC-talented team can in the BigTen.

Mark Richt comment after game, "these fans were great. Love our fans...(reporter turns away, he pulls her back) Ya'know, God bless all these fans in this stadium."

And I gotta say, watching those boys out there and their fans going absolutely ape-sh#t? Us nice corn-folk in Nebraska need to get our sh#t together if we wanna be back in the top 10.

completely agree with this. We do have some players that could be playing in the SEC. Obviously teams like Georgia, LSU, Bama, etc. have a lot more players than we have. All the teams in the SEC seem to play with a swagger which makes them confident, loose and having fun. Which is something I think Bo is trying to do with the team this year. I think our players are too afraid to make mistakes and are too uptight.

Watching Wisconsin and Ohio state. Both teams are far better than us. It's not talent, but it is coaching.

For example , penalties and fumbles are an issue for us. Something the staff has been working hard on during the off season. This problem never seems to go away. Lets be honest, we have systemic problems ranging from conditioning to teaching fundamentals. Don't get me wrong. We have some good coaches. It's the leadership that is the main problem.

There are other teams that have the same problems. Looks at Texas and USC. Talent is there, but coaching sucks. Same thing here. If we can ever get a good head coach again things will turn around. Honestly, I've been pretty depressed since UCLA. I'm resigned that we need a major change.

I am watching Ole Miss vs Alabama, and the DL for both teams attacks the OL. Completely different from the stand straight up and hand fight approach from the NU tackles. Supposedly Alabama plays the same 2-gap as NU, but the DTs are much more aggressive than NU's DTs. I haven't seen the Alabama DTs line up a yard away from the LOS either.

better players, better coaches....

Couldn't agree more. We have a more talented D than Wisconsin and we could only dream of stopping the run, qb draw, and everything else that Wiscy is doing a decent job of shutting down. OSU is getting long plays, not really do the best job of conistently moving the ball on them.

We are way more talented than Wiscy and have the athletes to shut OSU down on offense (I have to imagine SBJ or EVans could play better than true freshman), but we don't for whatever reason.

Really? LSU and UGA both let up 500 yards of offense today

Bama has a sweet D, no doubt. With that being said Ole Miss is terrible and never scores in Tuscaloosa

Uhh... both teams lost a lot on D. I think 15 players were drafted between both teams this year. They did alright going up against two QBs and WRs that will be playing in the NFL and Gurley (kid is a beast).
