Eichorst drop ball

Maybe this has been discussed... I was out of the country the entire week following the Iowa game. If so, I apologize.

This is NOT a debate on whether or not he should have kept Bo or not.....that has been brought up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many times....even in topics that don't concern it.

My question: I understand that the AD has his own "philosophy" or "methodology" concerning evaluating and discussing HC job "during" the season. I respect that, but in this case, does anyone feel as if maybe Eichorst's ideals hurt the program. Here is my take....

Eichhorst OBVIOUSLY has his mind made up many weeks ago that he was going to keep Bo.... if not, Bo would be gone... my goodness, the last week could NOT have gone any worse...with the home loss to Iowa (boarder war), 15 yd penalty for antics on sideline and post-game meltdown (which I actually supported because I think media is too blame for entire situation)...... with all that happened, Bo gave him every reason to pull the trigger, yet he supported him. This tells me that his mind was already made up..

Under that presumption (sp), with the fire storm that the local media decided to drum up concerning Bo's status during the last month..... NOBODY but the media fed this fire...... I truly believe that Eichorst should have put "his protocol" aside for the betterment of "his program"... by saying nothing at all, I really think that if effected recruiting, caused unsettlement in the locker room (distraction for players AND coaches).... both which could have impacted the team in a negative manner.

Just look at the number of recruits who have verballed in the last 2 weeks, once kids found out that Bo was safe...... how many guys cooled on us during the last month while everything was up in the air? ..... and players and coaches alike mentioned that the uncertainty was a distraction inside the locker room....... when in all reality, according to the way things played out, there really wasn't any uncertainty at all.

Eichorst could have solved A LOT of this crap with a simple statement saying that Bo was his guy and at the least visited with the team / coaches reassuring them that this was the case.

At some point, a leader must put aside his own agenda for the betterment of the cause. I don't think that Eichorst did this at all, and he has a little to learn about being an AD.

I know that many will disagree, but that is what debate is all about.

I don't mean for this to be a "negative"..."downer" topic, (that seems to be all we have had the past weeks), but rather just a debate on whether or not Eichorst handled the situation right or wrong in your opinions.

I've had similar thoughts. But then I wondered, did Eichorst let Bo twist in the wind for a few days for a reason? Perhaps in doing so he was reining Bo in. Or punishing him a bit for his behavior after the Iowa game. Or maybe I'm giving Eichorst too much credit. Maybe he was frozen for a few days, slow and ineffectual. Who knows what the truth is? Obviously someone with a higher clearance level than any of us possess.

I, too, find his actions perplexing.

I don't believe Eichorst has to constantly endorse Bo or respond to idle media speculation. But it seemed odd that he stayed silent in the face of overwhelming media speculation and rumors, only to finally speak up when Pelini's conduct was so outrageous on so many levels that national media were taking it for granted Bo would be fired. If Eichorst is apparently so supportive of Bo that Bo could drop his pants and lay a Cleveland steamer during a press conference and still not be fired, why be all coy when Bo was merely being his typical mediocre self?

The only explanation that makes sense is that Eichorst personally thinks Bo should be terminated, but got rejected by the few top coaching targets he might have called (e.g., Chris Peterson) or could not get booster support for the buy-out, and was forced to stick with Bo for the time being. In that case, the surprisingly positive endorsement at one of Pelini's worst times could be explained on the grounds of needing to save recruiting (which the endorsement obviously helped).

Wrong.

I agree. The state of Nebraska would have been a much better place leading up to the Iowa game if Eichorst would have came out in support beforehand. The way the situation was handled makes little sense.

Wrong.

Your Pelini nut-hugging bias blinded you to what I said. Re-read it as though I'm being critical of Eichorst and not Bo.

I'll wait.

Your perception of me being a Pelini nut-hugger is blinding you to what I said. Re-read it as though I'm being critical of the word only when trying to explain a behavior.

I'll wait.

SE held to most of his original statements that he was not going to comment on a HC till end of the season. Obviously, the fire was raging out of control and he has to issue some type of statement on coach. I do recall tho, BO enjoyed all the coaching rumors that he was leaving some time ago, and he too waited a long time before he addressed the rumors (I still believe he was actively trying to leave NE for other programs). Maybe SE was giving him a taste of his own medicine? The rumors started very early in the season from some reliable source that coach was out- I too believe something changed along the way.
