Mavric
McKewon had a series of tweets about former Husker coaches playing on the road against ranked teams. Not glowing numbers for Pelini but that won't surprise anyone. Mainly the last two caught my eye. Under Bo Pelini, Nebraska is 3-7 in true road games against teams ranked in the AP Top 25. #huskers Under Bill Callahan, Nebraska was 1-4 in true road games against teams ranked in the AP Top 25. Under Frank Solich, Nebraska was 1-9 in true road games against teams ranked in the AP Top 25. In other words, Bo's been better than both. Pelini was 2-4 in Big 12, with wins over Mizzou and Oklahoma State. Narrow losses at TT (37-31) and VT (16-15). NU 1-3 in such games in Big Ten. Beat Penn State 17-14. Lost to Wisky (48-17), Michigan (45-17) and Ohio State (63-38). #huskers Out of those 3 losses, worst was Michigan because of avoidable special teams gaffes. In hindsight, NU wasn't beating 2011 Wisconsin. Winning on the road against ranked teams is hard. Osborne went from Nov. 19, 1988 to Sept. 28, 1991 without beating a ranked team, period. Of course, he only played six of them in that stretch. All great teams. Three of them won national titles! 1 Quote Link to comment
Mavric
The last two are interesting not so much that we didn't beat a ranked team in what amounted to two full seasons and some change but how few we actually played. For the 88 and 89 seasons, we only played one ranked team in the regular season both years - Colorado. Quote Link to comment
deedsker
On the road against good teams is always hard, but the great teams find a way. If we want to me great, we must find a way. Quote Link to comment
Redux
If we go there and lose a tough fought, well played game, I will still be pretty damn proud of this team thus far. But a win could be the statement we have been yearning for. A win could be the first step to Bo beginning his legacy as a Legendary Nebraska coach. Quote Link to comment

The nice thing about losing a close game is we could have a 2nd shot against them if we do what we should the rest of the way. Quote Link to comment

This is the one that counts right now. Quote Link to comment

ShawnWatson
Jesus, I didn't remember how bad Solich was on the road. Quote Link to comment

It seems like we've not faired well in rematches over the years. I'd be ok with 11-1 and a trip to Indy. Quote Link to comment

Mavric
Didn't realize we haven't beaten a Top 10 team on the road since 1997 (Washington). Shouldn't be that surprising, I guess, but that's been quite some time now. Quote Link to comment
Minnesota_husker
I know MSU was a different team in 2012, but that win in East Lansing was still a huge win and I feel like that is a great starter. Last year was ugly because of the turnovers. We take those away and we were the better team. This isnt close to a slam dunk, but dont feel like this "road game" will be as hostile as Wisconsin/Michigan/Ohio State. MSU is very very good, but Nebraska has been playing the right type of football the last 2 weeks. Play your game and I think the outcome is in NEB's favor. Quote Link to comment
deedsker
For a couple years now under Pelini, it is about us. If we play to our strengths and don't shoot ourselves in the foot, we will win. We are our own worst enemy of the course of 60 minutes. We have played better this year, but now is the time to prove our consistancy. Quote Link to comment
TonyStalloni
As bad as last years game vs MSU was, I didn't feel we were overwhelmed. Turnovers constantly put us behind the 8 ball. While their offense is maybe better, their defense probably isn't as good. Our offense is better and our defense is as good or better than last year. I have no doubt Beck has plays no one has seen ready to spring on Sparty. I think we can win on the road this year. One thing I see is their big tight end and receivers may give our DB's fits if the front 4 can't get pressure. Quote Link to comment
Husker from Kansas
It's pretty simple to me, if we stop the run and force Sparty into alot of obvious passing situations then we win. Gregory and Co. will play hell on Cook and force him into alot of bad throws. Quote Link to comment
