NUance
The dumbest part to me is that he didn't have his hand down, so couldn't he have just reset? No. The position he's in-the two point-qualifies as set. He was gonna get a penalty if he moved a foot to regain balance. While it's funny and ridiculous and par for the course for the offense's performance, I understand why he did what he did. He was trying to hold on till the ball was snapped. This is exactly what he was trying to do. It was rather funny to see but he was trying to hold on to his stance Even famous Husker-lover Herby said he was trying to hold on as long as he could hoping they'd snap it. Would people feel a lot better if he just gave up and stood up? Just an easy target because of everything else that went on. Am I the only one who feels for this young man? He's now the object of national ridicule. Enough. Hell, I'd feel this way if he played for I_WA. Oh, I'm pretty sure most everyone on this board--and probably most football fans nationwide--knew what he was doing. It's just that most linemen would have stepped back out of it at some point. And you have to admit, taking it to the ground like that does make Jake look sort of silly. But yeah, silly or not, I do sort of feel bad for him. Quote Link to comment

A smart decision would be to get into a stance that one could hold for more than ten seconds...he couldn't pull that off after how many years in football, and that is why he is getting the sh#t he's getting. 3 Quote Link to comment
Hoosker
Both Jake Cotton and Corey Cooper have been pretty big letdowns as captains on the football field. Quote Link to comment

Yep. It's like he's the first lineman to false start in the history of the game. Quote Link to comment

It' more like just plain falling over than a false start. That's why it went viral, and not the other 200 false starts made last weekend. I guess I don't know how to explain it any better if you can't see it for yourself. 1 Quote Link to comment

Moiraine
How would it have been a good decision had the ball been snapped? He would have been nearly or totally out of balance and the DL/DE would've had a clear shot at the QB/RB after easily getting by him. Quote Link to comment

He doesnt having anyone over top of him, so he woulda had that extra half second he woulda needed to regain his balance at the snap. Quote Link to comment

The issue is he was trying to anticipate the snap and lost his balance because it didn't happen when he was expecting it to. By the time he realized that, he was committed to rocking back. Not going to come back from that. Had he timed it right, he would have been fine. Quote Link to comment

If the ball is snapped he is free to take a step and engage, and even if he fails on a block, we have a chance at a positive play instead of a guaranteed 5 yard penalty. Quote Link to comment
