BigRedBuster
Maybe we aren't unique to that sort of thing but lets also not pretend its the norm either. Plenty of places to coach and not have to worry about it. No there aren't. It is the norm. Every team's fanbase has their share of idiots. Hell, you'll piss off a certain percentage of people coaching Pop Warner teams. Society doesn't have to be that way and the Husker fan base doesn't have to be that way. Quote Link to comment
HUSKER FREAK
I seriously would love to find out who this is and follow them around heckling them. How fun would that be show up at his work place or his home and just make up what ever garbage that comes to mind. People can be pretty damn stupid but you're not going to stop it, just like I probably wouldn't actually do it. Quote Link to comment

Warrior
I'm glad he didn't have a Gundy rant," I'm a Man" But truth be told the coaches should know they are going to catch grief. The Families have to accept they will hear things about their Dads/Husbands, but nothing should ever be directed at the families. They are off limits at all costs. If anything they should get a pass from people due to the crazy pressure of their loved ones jobs.. Quote Link to comment

My point is, we as a fan base should be pointing our condemnation towards fans who do this instead of being upset that a coach didn't talk to us for a while and just wanted to concentrate on coaching while this is going on. Then, all that is said is one little blip about it happening and we have some fans rolling their eyes and saying the coaches just need to man up and deal with it. Quote Link to comment
CPT Blackshirt
I agree that it is crap to go after a family... but not talking does't solve his problems. Saying it out loud and expressing his disappointment about what happened would probably deter some of that. Not saying anything makes me feel like he isn't handling it well - almost a teenage cold shoulder reaction to a problem. I know that probably isn't the case but without hearing it from him it leaves us all to ponder... which is not a good move on his part. Quote Link to comment

If it was known who is doing it, they should absolutely be dealt with. Quote Link to comment
NUance
Totally unnecessary. Like him or not you leave the man's family alone. ^^^ This. Sadly, stuff like this happens in every program. Always a few bad apples. Quote Link to comment

irafreak
Ah yes...distract us with the fans...I expect more out of the media and Beck. You're a paid professional. You know this sort of stupid crap (and it is stupid) comes with the job. Just shrug it off and take care of your responsibilities. Nothing is going to happen to your family. These fools are cowards. Go talk to the media and focus on football. This whining gets old. I can't excuse the fans but there are always a bunch of morons out there with nothing better to do. Be above that. This should be a non story... Ummm....that's what he was doing. Really? By refusing to talk to the media during your scheduled time to talk to the media about football...that's being above this? We wonder why this team wilts under pressure.... Quote Link to comment
Hedley Lamarr
The nice thing about being the HC at KU for Football is you wouldn't have to worry about this stuff....they dont have any fans Quote Link to comment

Junior
Some people are jackasses, what does anyone expect? Let's not pretend like this is more than a handful of people, much less the majority. It happens. Everywhere. I googled "coach family harassed fans" and these are like five of an endless amount of hits. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2005/10/21/Maddox-Fans-are-harassing-Maddox-family-feeling-the-loss/stories/200510210171 Maddox declined to be specific on what items were thrown in his yard after the game. But he said he has never been subjected to such incidents in any of the three other NFL cities -- Denver, Los Angeles and New York -- in which he has played. Some of Maddox's teammates said even his grade-school children were heckled at school http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24052252/report-police-called-after-texans-fan-harasses-matt-schaub-at-home Matt Schaub has been catching heat in and around Houston for his play on the field with the Texans lately. But if the latest report is true, Houstonians need to get a hold of themselves. According to CBS Houston, Texans fans accosted Schaub at his home on Tuesday evening and "berated him for his poor play." "A fan went to his house and told him off," a law enforcement source told CBS Houston. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3186883 Relatives of Rich Rodriguez have been harassed and threatened in the three weeks since his resignation as West Virginia football coach. His mother, Arleen Rodriguez, said her teen grandson received a death threat and found other harassing notes taped to his locker at East Fairmont High School. Arleen said her 12-year-old granddaughter had to be escorted to classes. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/sports/2011/03/11/rumblings-3-11-art-gl0bu32m-1.html Herbstreit said the move to Nashville, Tenn., was because of the constant criticism he has received from a vocal minority of Ohio State fans who don't understand that his job at the network demands objectivity and fairness. So, yes, those fans (Nebraska and otherwise) who do crap like this are scumbags. But this isn't a problem unique to Nebraska and people should stop acting like these idiots speak for the whole of the fanbase. 1 Quote Link to comment
