StPaulHusker
One running back can't block. One can't get more than 3 yards. And one can't hold on to the ball. Turrible. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
Sometimes Bo & Co. makes great adjustments at half time. I hope this is one of those times. Come out running, slow the game down, and try to come up with points. Quote Link to comment
Ziebol
9-4 this year and even worse next year. Dark times ahead I feel. Quote Link to comment
The Duke
First Half Summary: I said on the first page of this thread that their were three key x-factors to this game (Offensive Line, Tommy Armstrong, Special Teams & Field Position). The offensive line did a great job in the 1st quarter with their zone blocking, and Beck was smart to stay with it. I also said that Tommy would have a few key opportunities in the play-action game, but he had to hit them when they were there. He missed Kenny Bell on such a play on the very first drive of the game. The other thing I mentioned that Tommy had to do in this game was know when to throw the ball out of bounds. He has failed in that respect, especially in the 2nd quarter. Special Teams so far has been average by both teams. The field position battle has been decided mainly by Wisconsin turnovers, which Nebraska has done a decent job of capitalizing on. Unfortunately for Nebraska the field position battle became a moot point in the 2nd quarter due to Wisconsin running power-o with Gordon against terrible defensive fundamentals by Nebraska. We are a good swarming defense, but we like to try to hit opponents rather than make fundamental wrap-up tackles. Many of us have been saying it for years now, and it still holds true: Nebraska still lacks an identity. When the game bogs down, and you need to hang your hat on your bread & butter plays, what are those plays for Nebraska? For Tim Beck it seems to be air-it-deep on three straight possessions. That's not Nebraska football. In short: Nebraska STILL does not know how to put away an equal or slightly more talented opponent when we have a lead. 2nd Half Adjustments: The defense must wrap-up and win one-on-one tackles. Clog up the middle, and force Gordon to run wide, so that we use the sideline as an extra defender. It's still only a 7 point ball game, so for Nebraska's offense, stick to the zone running game, keep Tommy involved with his legs, and pick your moments to hit the big one in the passing game. If Gordon is still gashing Nebraska's defenders in the 3rd quarter this game will get out of hand quickly. Quote Link to comment
lo country
One running back can't block. One can't get more than 3 yards. And one can't hold on to the ball. Turrible. 2 back set and option? More designed QB runs. Hate to say it. Less AA if we plan to pass....... Quote Link to comment
okaive
Beck is calling a game plan that doesn't play to his strengths. PA, 2 back sets, diamond, wildcat etc...NOthing to help. Same square peg round hole sh!t from the $750k/year genius........... Beck will continue to hurt this team more than he'll help... Where's DPE been, outside of the one PI?? Where's the Diamond? Why aren't we rotating RB's to keep our guys fresh? Why no 2 TE sets? Why isn't a FB being utilized?? According to Beck, our FBs are also obsolete. Quote Link to comment

microwavetech
I'll have to say this is the first time we've been sucking with the turnover margin in our favor that I remember. Quote Link to comment

Husker67
Now, I've coached middle school football for years. It is absolutely light years away from coaching at Nebraska, but at some point, I see what my kids can and can't do, and make adjustments so I don't continue to get rolled (depending on the group of kids we have), because no matter what, my name is on it, I have a bit of pride in my community and school system that will not allow me to look so bad on a weekly basis without doing something different. I guess getting paid 7 bills a year inflates your ego so much, that you just believe no matter what you do it is right. Quote Link to comment
VA Husker Fan
I wonDer if that was a Husker fan or a Badger fan that yelled "Pelini you suck" as they were going in for halftime. It was Carl. Quote Link to comment
