zoogs
Langsdorf is interesting; he's spent most of his career at Oregon State as the OC. Curious about his recruiting. It's great that he's a well-regarded teacher of quarterbacks. As for 1-year stops for position coaches, that's not uncommon at all. Coughlin also doesn't have the greatest job security to offer, so cry me a river there Quote Link to comment
BIGREDFAN_in_OMAHA
This was mostly mentioned already, if so I apologize. But is it to be assumed he will also be the QB coach as well? Dan Hoppen @danhoppen 3m3 minutes ago In Danny’s Langdorf’s one year as the Giants’ QB coach, Eli Manning flipped his TD-INT ratio from 18:27 to 30:14. #Huskers Yeah, between Langsdorf and Riley, the QB spot should be well coached. Not jumping on you TTRR because this has been brought up several times other places but this is a perfect example of lies, damn lies and statistics. Manning was about as bad as possible last year. That stat has been thrown out a lot as "look how good he did with Manning." But in the four years prior to last year, Manning averaged 4,226 yards, 61.5% completions, 28 TDs, 17 INTs, and a 89.6 rating. He had 4,410 yards, 63.1%, 30 TDs, 14 INTs and a 92.1 rating this year. That is, he basically returned to form after a terrible year last year. I'd say it's similar to a pitching coach in baseball that has to come in to correct a glitch after an off year. Helped in landing Brandon Cooks and Wheaton among many others 1 Quote Link to comment

I dont think you can run that type of offense and be successful in the B1G. I could be wrong, but past performance is a good predictor of future results and I would guess we are going to try to run a pass happy attack which wont be successful in the environments we are going to have to play in. BRFO beat me to it. Eli obviously had been successful in the past, but Langsdorf might have been that factor to bring his game back after a down year. I will concede it could also be merely coincidental, but Langsdorf had some solid QB production at OSU as well. Quote Link to comment

beorach
I remember thinking a certain coach would have the smarts to build on the power running game already established at Nebraska after taking the HC job. We all know how quickly that hope was dashed. We've had this discussion about Oregon State's rushing stats already, though. Over the past decade, the Beavers' recruiting classes were usually ranked 9th in the Pac-Ten/Twelve. Through that same period, their average finish was 4th (behind Oregon, USC, and Stanford (in that order)) - essentially on par with Arizona State and UCLA. Considering the recruiting classes measure not just talent but also its depth, I think you have to excuse some amount of fluctuation in performance. With all that said, I'd like Nebraska to be known for its physical play on both sides of the ball. I think that's the Cornhusker legacy. Reading crap like this worries me but I'm behind our new guy 100% all the same. GBR! Quote Link to comment

I think it's irrelevant. If Riley is half the coach people make him out to be, he had to run a successful pass offense in the PAC to be competitive with other high octane offenses in the conference. To me it's similar to a mid major in basketball being a good 3 point shooting team. At OSU, Riley didn't have the resources to recruit with Oregon and USC, so a solid pass game was needed to overcome the possibilities of a bad defense or an offense that didn't have the talent to go toe to toe at the line with the guys getting 5* recruits. HuskerBowhunter
I too love the power run game, but look at the NFL. Many are saying they are worried about the lack of a run game and how it won't work in the BIG Ten. Honest question how does it work in the NFL then? Only a handful of teams in the NFL (five to be exact) run the ball more than they pass it. http://www.fftoday.com/stats/13_run_pass_ratios.html 1 Quote Link to comment

My guess is he doesnt like working for that meany Tom Coughlin. We will likely pay him more than what he is making now and it will be a lower stress environment than NY. Easy decision. I just hope he isnt here to collect a pay check. Uh.... "When I was sitting on the bus after the Jacksonville game, I wanted to fire everybody," John Mara said. That was the Giants' seventh loss in a row, and the worst of the bunch considering the opponent's record and the 21-0 lead the Giants had at one point in the game. But they won their next three against Tennessee, Washington and St. Louis before losing the season finale against the Eagles. While saying, "I'm well aware of who we played," Mara said he believed the team continued to play hard for Coughlin and stuck together behind him. Reese underscored that assessment. You do the math.
