Spring Quarterback Competition

Recommended Posts

It's a delicate situation right now. You can start Tommy but you'll have to endure mental mistakes and not so great mechanics. But, he had experience and has shown to be pretty tough. Or you can pick potential with Bush. But, he's bound to make mistakes because he's never seen the field at the college level.

At this point it would be smart to take experience above potential and try to put Tommy in a position to succeed. Using his strengths and calling plays that don't put too much pressure on him. Too many times last year we saw Beck put it all on Tommy and there were mistakes which cost us.

Ahem, Cardale Jones.

Football God's, can you please bless us with a quarterback.

One thing that was interesting was Langsdorf saying that the QBs had an easy time finding the 1s but were slow finding the 2s and the 3s, which was a problem we suspected Tommy had last season, but there was a split opinion on the board as to whether he could find checkdown receivers consistently or not.

Suspected? He proved it over and over again, e.g. by throwing into double/triple coverage to the 1st receiver.

Yeah because every teams 3rd string QB is as good as him.

Well I am with you, but like I mentioned, some people here disagreed.

Remember the "Johnny Tebow" days? Dilfer is such a tool.

I think the Johnny Tebow moniker probably stems from personality more than anything. He seems like the kind of kid who was a BMOC/apple polisher at an Orange County private school, but might be challenged in being seen as a leader of a more diverse set of teammates.

I think he'll be the odd man out and looking to transfer after spring ball. Not a lot of FCS scholarship options on the West Coast anymore, though. Maybe if Riley likes him he'll find him a spot somewhere in the Big Sky.

He probably has, just reactionary. Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

SEEN: Wideout Jamal Turner beating true freshman corner Eric Lee on a go route for a touchdown. Zack Darlington threw the pass.

SEEN: Darlington throwing a perfect pass to tight end Luke McNitt for another score. It was the best throw of any quarterback during the 7-on-7 drill.

SEEN: Tough days overall for quarterbacks in 7-on-7 drills. Throwing with and against a strong wind, many held on to the ball too long and missed open quarterbacks. Josh Kalu picked off A.J. Bush while Jonathan Rose picked off Tommy Armstrong.
