Ross Dzuris

I would take the Mustachioed Marauder over Allen in a heartbeat.

Freshman Pierre Allen was pretty good. Not sure what happened after that, but his production ramped way down.

Seemed to be more or less the same story with Meredith and Turner.

Wasn't Turner a Freshman AA?

Yeah, Turner was a Freshman AA when he was used as a pass-rush specialist and got a number of sacks.

THE ONLY thing you can knock Dzuris on right now is his speed.

That is it. End of Story.

So he's as underrated as Louisville's Lamar Jackson?

Sure.

Riley just said he had the best game on the DL.... You can argue with me all you want, but when the HC agrees, maybe you should too?

Saying he played the best game does not contradict anything that anyone in this thread has said.

Do you feel like even though he is doing his job he has hit his ceiling?

Considering he is basically half-way (practice-wise) through his fifth and final year, yes, I think this is probably his ceiling.

His ceiling is looking pretty decent this year.

Like I said, he's a solid player. Plays hard. Is in the right spots (as far as I can tell).

But he doesn't seem to win a lot of one-on-one battles straight up. He's gotten some nice stats but they've mostly been benefits of being in the right spot at the right time. Freedom has caused much more havoc in the backfield but he doesn't have the stats to show for it. As was mentioned, it was really Freedom's pass rush that forced Prokup into Dzuris so Ross got the stats but it was really Freedom that made the play.

None of that is to say Dzuris is a bad player. He's solid but probably slightly above average at best. That will work for this year (it'll have to). But we need some more dynamic play at that spot going forward.

Plays hard as heck that's for sure. Really the whole DL plays really hard even if they aren't the most talented or experienced group.

Paraella likely deserves some credit for getting the most out of these guys so far.

Agreed. And there's something to be said about a unit that may not have equal talent compared to last year, but that really wants to be here.

So you'd rather he not be in correct position to make plays? Makes sense.

Where does Mavric say this? You are making up what he is saying. Mavric isn't knocking Dzuris' play, but he is just saying it would be nice to have a more talented player at the DE spot. I think we all would agree that a great talent and great positioning would be the best. However, that talent isn't on NU this year, so we will continue to support Dzuris and the solid play that he has done so far.

Thanks. I thought I had explained that three or four times already but apparently not.

He has been in the right place at the right time a lot. He's a solid player but most - maybe all - of his "big" plays have been taking advantage of what someone else did.

Isn't this a trait we want in most Defensive players?

I thought so, however if the other 10 decide to take the play off you need a guy that can do it alone. I'm not sure he is the guy to take on 11.
