This is all to stroke Donald's ego. Summoning the entire Senate for a blowhard like Kim Jong Un? He's giving the man exactly what he wants - attention and a semblance of legitimacy.

Very true, but wouldn't it be a good time to put an end to these shenanigans? Pressure China to cut ties with the North and force then to give up their nuclear program. Finding some way to end this without bloodshed would be tremendous.

When has there not been a good time to get the Kim family out of North Korea? It's always been a good idea to remove despots from power. So why now?

I don't know? Why didn't Obama tackle the issue? Seems like a relaxing China is making things more feasible in the past decade. If this administration can actually do it peacefully more power to them. The saber rattling is concerning though.

North Korea has been launching missiles since 1993. They've been testing nuclear weapons since 2006. That covers the last four presidents.

Why didn't Bush?

Why didn't Clinton?

Why didn't Bush?

Why didn't Obama?

Probably because they all realized we had far more to lose by going to war with the Kims than by keeping them hemmed in.

Exactly. So, why didn't we find peaceful way? We can all agree that a dictator with nukes is the last thing the world needs.

This whole thing is more about needing to control headlines than an actual need to go to war. But if it comes to war, in order to control headlines, Trump won't hesitate to try and instigate it. He's deeply distraught over his poor approval ratings and he wants that - needs it - to change.

These whisper campaigns about "war with North Korea" are not accidental. It's all posturing.

According to Gallup polls Trump is barely below where Obama averaged his entire presidency. Trump is at 40% approval right now, Obama started his presidency much higher (60%) till the meat of his presidency where he dropped to between 40-47% on a consistent basis. He then ended around 55% the first 3 weeks they continued polling in January

Comparing the beginning of Trump's presidency to the middle of Obama's is comparing apples and oranges since Presidents almost always receive higher approval ratings at the beginning of their presidency. Trump's average approval rating for the first-quarter was 41% which is the lowest first-quarter approval rating Gallup has ever recorded. In comparison, Obama's approval rating through the first-quarter of his presidency was 63%.

DPRK doesn't have nuclear capabilities to threaten us. They have enough to keep Kim Jong-un in power. If they even tried to fire a nuke at anyone, it'd be shot down by THAAD very quickly and KJU would seal his own fate.

That's my impression why they haven't been dealt with. They like to make a lot of noise and posture aggressively. That's about it. They're not a threat and we've had other priorities.

Frankly, I'm more concerned he's a horrible dictator who starves his own people and has them shot with anti-aircraft guns, but acting in the name of that would be lampooned as regime change. I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze.
