Russia

In other threads in the past I have made comments (mostly tongue in cheek) about how some in the USA would possibly side with Russia if they were to invade during a democrat President's term.

I'm starting to think this isn't a bad strategy for Russia or China if they wanted to actually invade the US.  Work up enough crazy rightwingers and get them to start attacking our own institutions.  Start a sloppy civil war, and start giving weapons and intelligence to the militias (think US involvement in Ukraine).

Hoping Canada can keep them from coming south of Alaska :P

Funny how things change. My memory is that the right wingers thought the left wingers were communist lovers for….well as long as I can remember.

What I think is interesting is I am around a lot of "right-wingers" and zero of them have this stance.  I am not really sure how prevalent this thought really is?

Change Communist with Socialist and I would agree with the post above.  The right wingers I'm around (and that's a lot) firmly believe Democrats want to do nothing but change everything in America to a socialist utopia.

I guess the stance I am talking about is supporting Russia in this invasion.  There has been some mention of right wingers who support Trump also support Russia.  I have not seen any of that.

I can't think of one right wing friend that supports Russia in general. I am from a generation that was young when the Berlin Wall fell, however. Russia has always been an enemy or adversary to anyone I know on the right....or left or middle for that matter.  I think the "right likes Russia" is a new narrative that started in 2017 with the accusations against Trump not just since the invasion.

My older brother had a history teacher in high school named Jane. She had a reputation of being liberal and got tagged as being a communist sympathizer. Her nickname among the kids was "jungle jane"...taken from Jane Fonda. I had the same teacher. She was very good and her class was a college prep level class before they were a thing. Totally agree with your last statement about socialism, but I think it started with communist sympathizers and morphed into socialists. I suspect the student loan forgiveness helps to solidify your right wing friends beliefs.

I hear you. :D

Ha!

I was just going to link the poll that says Repubs like Putin more than the POTUS.  But the same poll also shows dems preferring Putin over Trump.

Didn't feel like going back and forth about it.;)\

The radicals in our country kind of suck....left and right!

It's funny how we never talk about class warfare, wealth redistribution, or socialism when the government is giving huge tax breaks and incentives to the wealthiest companies and individuals.

Student loan forgiveness is a drop in the bucket.

Farm subsidies and co-ops are far closer to communism, and rural voters seem oddly silent about it.

There was a very concerted effort on Fox to demean Zelensky and present Russia as the victims of a U.S. (Democratic) and NATO strategy that gave Putin no choice but to regain his historic buffer zone (Ukraine). Tucker Carlson was a nightly apologist:  "what was Putin supposed to do?"  They may have sensed this backfiring on them and toned it down since.

Many examples from the Obama years of Fox personalities swooning over the shirtless Putin and pondering on air how nice it would be to have a true strong man as U.S. president.

I knew we were going to end up on Tucker somewhere in this conversation. I will try and remember to ask the most right wing friend I can think of what he thinks of Russia and Putin and the Ukraine war. I will report back. I should be able to tell if they watch Mr. Tucker.
