If someone actually is racist or sexist, the label fits, as long as the evidence supports it. Falsely throwing out those labels is certainly a bad thing to do, and I see people do it far too often. But we also can't be afraid to recognize and use mountains of evidence right in front of our face. Trump's own actions and his own words, over and over again, provide substantial proof of his racism and xenophobia, and the fact that he uses the racial fears of others for his own gain. It has been discussed in many threads, and you simply deny it without actually addressing the evidence. Try reading the links provided on page 54 of the Republican Utopia thread and respond to each one of those points. 

 

I mean, we can debate on Trump's ideas and the Republican ideas for the economy, immigration, foreign policy, etc, and there will be debatable points for each of those topics that reasonable people can disagree on. But Trump's racism is not reasonably debatable, the evidence is more than ample. It is overwhelming.

We are not going to agree on much if the narrative of some on here is that Trump is racist and that is the default fallback position for a host of topics. 

 

For decades the Democratic party has used race as a wedge issue to divide this country along racial lines. This race baiting and identity politics grew under Obama, with Ben Stein calling him the most racist President ever, and Stein was not a fan of Trump when he was running in the primary.

Okay so, just so we're clear, you think he has changed but you think so without him ever saying he has, him ever apologizing for past behavior, or him ever displaying specific examples of being a different person?

 

Do you at least think that he used to be a racist? You think that discriminating against black people is racist right?

 

So in the 70's, Trump discriminated against black people looking to rent apartments. Then he did it again.

 

Then in the 90's, he was quoted in a book as saying, “ Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys wearing yarmulkes… Those are the only kind of people I want counting my money. Nobody else…Besides that, I tell you something else. I think that’s guy’s lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks.”

 

Then later in the 90's, he was quoted as saying that the book was, “probably true.”

 

Then, in 2013, he suggested a judge couldn't do their job because of their Mexican heritage.

 

Then, in 2015, a former Trump casino worker claimed that black employees were hidden from view when Trump and his wife Ivana were around in the 80's.

 

Then, in 2017, he was quoted as saying things such as, "They all have AIDS", and that after seeing America, they will never, "go back to their huts" in reference to people from the s#!thole countries of Nigeria and Haiti. To be clear, this isn't the time that he referred to s#!thole countries, that was another separate time later.

 

Then, Joe Arpaio, who oversaw the worst pattern of racial profiling in US history, got a pardon and a compliment of being, "a great American patriot" from Trump, after he had been found guilty of contempt of court and unlawful discriminatory police conduct.

 

 

 

Jim Acosta thinks, "the president seems to harbor racist feelings about people of color from other parts of the world."

 

David Brooks of PBS said, "It fits into a pattern that we have seen since the beginning of his career, maybe through his father's career, frankly. There's been a consistency, pattern of harsh judgment against black and brown people."

 

Many New York Times and The New Yorker columnists have expressed that they think he is a racist.

 

Michael Steele, former chairman of the RNC, said, when asked if he thought Trump was racist, "Yeah, I do. At this point the evidence is incontrovertible."

 

John Hewson, an Australian political commentator said, "There should be little doubt about US President Donald Trump's views on race, despite his occasional 'denials', assertions of 'fake news', and/or his semantic distinctions. His election campaign theme was effectively a promise to 'Make America Great Again; America First and Only' and – nod, nod, wink, wink – to Make America White Again."

 

Doug McAdam, a professor of sociology at Stanford, said Trump, "has pushed the GOP toward ever further racist and nativist extremes." 

 

Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said "What Trump is doing has popped up periodically, but in modern times, no president has been so racially insensitive and shown outright disdain for people who aren't white."

 

George Yancy, a professor at Emory University known for his work on racial issues, concluded that Trump is racist, describing his outlook as "a case of unabashed white supremacist ideas."

 

David Bryden, Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Minnesota, said that Trump was willing to, "vilif[y] all those of any race whom he regards as obstacles to his ambitions."

 

 

 

 

 

 

So there's LOTS of evidence of racism here. And you don't believe he's a racist because of.... "the hundreds if not thousands of minorities that have worked for him and spoken highly of him over the years."

 

Could you maybe give sources for just like, six of those THOUSANDS of minorities?

I said do not condone actions he took in the 1970s during his 20s, but if you are going to list a bunch of academics, never Trumpers and members of the media as your current proof, no, I am not buying it. That is comical you are trying to use their OPINIONS as evidence.  In my opinion racism is in someones heart, and those who have known him the best and longest have said the allegations are not true and inaccurate. President Trump himself has talked about it and said he was not racist. Many others have said the same thing and even Trump himself addressed the topic. His ex wife which may harbor bad feelings for him have said that. Herman Cain has said he is not racist. MLKs nephew and niece have known Trump and said the same thing. These are not analysts or professors trying to hypothesize on this topic  but people who know him and in some cases very well. I will take their word over Jim Acosta or any member of left wing news or academia any day of the week.

I never said you did...just confirming this is an opinion-based argument despite some claiming its a factual statement.  I personally think Obama was the most racially divisive POTUS of my lifetime and used race (as most Dems have done for decades) as a wedge issue to galvanize voters.  Race baiting and identify politics is the Dems playbook and Trump is finally starting to expose and crack that playbook which is why you are seeing some going crazy now trying to bash Kanye calling him a Token Negro and White Supremacist.
