Well if I made a wrong assumption my apologies....but I thought a few basic questions would better help me understand.  I will let you answer first.

Well...typically when someone proclaims someone a label, they have specific reasons why.

I will just ask some open questions then. You shared last year how a parent or someone close to you was too Conservative which led you away from agreeing with the Republican party plarform in most cases.

1. Would you support a ban on abortion?

I'm anti Abortion.  However, I don't agree with it being such a political issue.  Neither side really wants the issue fixed because it solidifies their base.  This question pretty much proves that. If conservatives really were anti-abortion, they would put the billions of dollars they spend on supporting "conservative" politicians into sex education, reproductive clinics that distribute birth control.  And, if they were politically honest with the world, they would admit that abortions have been decreasing for a long time.  Maybe instead of spending all this money on the pathetic politicians, we should be studying why that is and increase those efforts.

2. Do you support Obamacare or believe the government should become more involved in providing health care?

I never have liked Obamacare and didn't support the bill when it was passed.  However, the Republicans are complete joke on this issue since a main part that they are screaming about...was originally promoted by Republicans.  Now.....you might have me a little on this one.  You see, I'm fiscally conservative in that I want society to accomplish what they need to accomplish as cheap as possible so we all can keep more of our money.  Doesn't that sound pretty conservative?  Lower taxes?  Efficient government?  Now......I have studied this enough (without being tied to a political party that makes me just think one way) to realize that the rest of the world (you know....the ones that are those evil socialists???) are getting better healthcare cheaper.  Wouldn't it be conservative and prudent to study why that is and try to figure out why they get better resolves for about a third of the price?

3. Do you believe guns more gun restrictions will lead to less gun violence?

I'm a gun owner and support the second amendment.  However, do you think it would be wise to try to figure out why we have such a huge lead in the developed world in gun violence....and do that with an open mind to ever possibility?  I also am honest enough to realize that violent crime has been decreasing since the early 90s and I haven't fallen for Trump's scare tactics that Americans are experiencing this extremely violent time in our history.  How about if we openly and honestly study why violent crimes have decreased in the US AND.....why we have so many mass shootings?  Wouldn't letting the CDC study this make sense?  Oh....and.....I also (as an independent away from the party system) realize that the scare tactics of..."OMG....THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE ALL OUR GUNS AWAY" is promoted through the NRA which is funded by the gun manufacturers who profit from people being scared the evil government is going to take all our guns away.

4. Do tax cuts or increased govt spending do more to improve the economy?

I'm very pro business and realize that one of the biggest jobs of the government is to provide a business environment that allows innovation, business growth and opportunity.  I also understand that...for the most part....regulations hamper that.  However, I also realize that business thrives in a stable environment where everyone knows the variables.  Total deregulation does not provide that.  Smart regulation does.  The US has thrived with smart regulation for centuries.  You just look at our financial markets and realize that a certain level of regulation is needed.  Do I support tax cuts???  Hell yes.....as long as the bills get paid.  Right now they aren't and the recent tax cuts only made that worse.  You know...that fiscal conservative in me says we should pay our bills. I also am knowledgable in business and economics enough that there is a time for everything.  There are times taxes need raised and times when taxes need cut.  I'm also smart enough and knowledgable enough to not buy the myth that we are the most taxed nation in the world.

5. Should the US increase border security?

I'm fine with tougher border security and have been concerned ever since 9/11 that bad people can come across easily.  However, I'm 100% for immigration and believe that fixing the ability for people to become citizens needs done bad.  This system is a joke.  America was built on Immigration.  All of us come from immigrants and most of our ancestors came without a pot to piss in.  I personally have been involved in helping two people become citizens and it was a nightmare for both of them.  I also think the border wall is quite possibly the dumbest idea ever that anyone has brought up.  I also will fight against anyone who demonizes an entire group of people who actually add to the US economy.  I also believe the administrations actions with separating children at the border is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen out government do in my lifetime.  You know....I'm a conservative family man and believe families should be kept together.  I also laugh about this....because my family came to the US around the turn of the 20th century.  They came in through Canada and would be considered illegal now.  I guess Trump wants me to be deported.  Oh.....and deporting 12 million people is never going to happen and it's also one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard.  Fix immigration and make them Americans.  I also am a religious man who believes that immigration should not be based on someones religious beliefs or their financial status.

Now....if you read all that and still think I'm a radical leftist....well.....I guess I am.  I'm guess I'm fine being a leftist anti abortion, pro business, pro gun, lower taxes, efficient government, pro family religious leftist whack job.

Yes to all four of these.

I'll add:

He tried to reason with the Republicans even though he knew they were unreasonably opposed to him from the day he took office.

He failed to properly address immigration

He bungled the handling of the information showing Russia was meddling in the 2016 election

And probably the worst of all:

He talked Joe Biden out of running in 2016

1.I thought Obama should have pushed universal health care when he had the political power to do it . Trying to work with the GOP on that one was a mistake .

2. I was all in favor of the withdrawal from our unnecessary occupation in Iraq but I thought Obama botched it by announcing the withdrawl date and pulling out too abruptly. That made things worse .

3. I didn’t think he went far enough condemning extremists who did violent acts in the name of BLM .

It’s crazy to imagine what things would be like if Biden had run and (likely) won. Even if he hadn’t gotten a lot done due to both the Senate and House being Republican, the status quo would have been so much better.

Thanks for the response BRB.  I agree and disagree on some points but am surprised at the nastiness you seem to feel toward the Republican party but not the Democratic party.  With that said, I have added in some of my perspective.

I am passionately against abortion especially after having 2 kids and hearing the heart beat after six weeks.  After seeing the abortion involves mutilating the fetus, in my mind this is one of the biggest human rights tragedies and I feel someday our ancestors will look back on this period in US history like we do now on slavery.  We are seeing babies born as early as 20 weeks and more science is showing that babies central nervous system is far enough along to feel pain at 20 weeks.  At a minimum I am not sure how anyone would support late-term abortion after 20 weeks if the mother’s life is in danger, yet that is where most of the Democratic party is at.

What I have studied of Canada’s socializied health system and others is that the wait times have gone way up and the quality of care has gone down.  Now maybe some country has improved that model, but I have not seen any great things happen when a government gets more involved in health care.

I am supportive of better background checks as no crazy person should get their hands on guns or any other weapon.  I also think we have to look at the breakdown of the American family and the lack of supervision along with he rise of violence in video games, and the rise of anger and craziness from social media platforms, as contributors to humans willing to fire a gun to do harm.  In the UK the weapon of choice now seems to be knives…it takes a person to commit a crime and more emphasis needs to be given on mental health along with perfecting the background check process.

I agree about regulation and I also would like to see us work on paying the bills too.  To make this happen, however, we would have to significantly reduce entitlement expenses which is probably a whole separate question.  Entitlements are the biggest contributor to our long-term debt structure, so medicare, Medicaid, social security, and any government health care program just makes the problem worse.

We have had decades of “border security” that has not gotten the job done, so I am supportive of a wall or whatever new means will get the job done.  I do not believe in completely open borders but also support immigration that is legal.  As for family separation, I don’t support this but I also get frustrated that this was blown up recently yet it occurred and happened often under the Obama admin.  This is where the double standard comes in from the left that is frustrating.  Once it became known Obama did the same thing, the concern on this topic began to dwindle…I wonder why.

Thanks for sharing to Landlord and St Paul...just waiting on BRB and knapplc.

I do wish we could have a pinned thread in here that allows each person to share their views on the 5 questions posed (and more if desired) to allow everyone to understand how they feel about the issues without throwing the personalities in the mix.

Or, hear me out now... We could read what people write in the threads we are engaging in, and not make assumptions.

You literally titled this thread "The Angry Violent Left" and proceeded to complain about not being served at a couple of restaurants.

If you expect fair dialogue, start doing it yourself.

I don’t support the democrats. I’ve never voted for one for president because I don’t agree with their views. I don’t agree with their views....that doesn’t mean they are evil or anti American.

I’ll admit personal vitriol towards the Republican Party due to the fact I wish there an actual Conservative party that wasn’t a complete fraud and built on lies and myths and suppprting a corrupt piece of crap for president.

Trump was found guilty by the Department of Justice twice for refusing to rent properties to black people. That is racist behavior.

Not all of his supporters are racist, but there are many racists who do support him.

None of this is unfair.

No need, you will just ignore, eye roll , or blast out the same Trump supporter stuff , to contradict , any views that don’t fit yours or that you don’t deem worthy of your consideration . All the same things you’ve started this and many other threads to complain about . Ugh
