All you can ask for is the opportunity to succeed, and this country provides that. People need to get comfortable with the fact that there are going to be winners and losers in this world. Some people pursue success, most are content to get by.... And an alarmingly growing number feel entitled to perks/success that it was once understood had to be earned. It's unfortunate.

Do you think the playing field is level for all people in this country? And that winners and losers are solely produced by the sweat of their brow?

No, that's an impossible ask for a country of 300+ million people. But, it is *possible* for all people in this country.

In the context of the conversation over the last handful of pages in this thread? It's a big part of it.

There's a fair amount of convenient overlooking of obstacles placed in the way of a significant portion of the population in this belief.

People continually not prioritizing their education or their kids education and therefor increasing their skill set is the biggest obstacle that is dismissed

Why do you find that so controversial?  Or feel that others will find it controversial?

Because he knows that there are clear and inherent obstacles to getting an education that are compounded by poverty. Don't pay parents a living wage, they aren't able to prioritize their kids education in grade/high school, let alone try to make college work. Kid doesn't see parents invested in his/her education so never takes it seriously themselves, leading to them working jobs that don't pay a living wage. This is why there is a push to defund education systems/ move to charter schools. It guarantees a cheap labor force.

My best friend created a charter school out in California with the goal of each student having started their own "business" by the time they graduated.

My God you are amazingly negative towards people who own businesses.

News flash.....businesses need an educated labor force.  You really think that business owners don't want people to get an education so they can pay them less?
